Default Home Theater

Anyone here ever design and build your own home theater? I am contemplating this project. I have a large "man room" in the basement, which is already running 7.1 audio and has a 50" TV... not a bad set up for watching TV, but I am thinking of a more elaborate design, which resembles an acutal theater (sans Jujy-Fruit stuck to the floor). I want a retractable screen, HD Projector, theater decor, etc. I am interested to hear any stories/ideas from those who have done this before. Thanks!

I have done a lot of thinking about exactly that at times, Wimbo... rather than bore you with how I'd set things up, it might be more helpful if I aimed you at a coupla websites that I found that might give you some practical ideas as to furniture, carpeting, ceiling treatments, even wall treatments to help produce acoustic clarity, and even some high end video equipment from Runco:

yup. by far best place to go.

I built out a homemade 110" screen, HD projector and 7.1 sound for about 3K excluding the media server pc which was an old gaming pc i converted for next to cost.

yamaha 661 receiver
polk audio speaker 7.1 set up except sub is cerwin vega.
infocus sp-7210 projector.
ps3
hd-dvr dish network.
htpc.

i did all the work myself and just ordered online or drove to pick up items based on best prices after research.

I am extremely happy with it. The entire family loves it.

but it is no where near as nice as many of the true room renovations and setups at avs.
But I still don't know what any team saw Thursday night that would have made them comfortable with waiting a round or two for the offensive lineman they wanted. ---Todd McShay
We just converted half our LB to DL. We have a 30m starting DL, it better be pretty friggin good.

Ditto, the HL-S6187 for me. I'll be getting it professionally calibrated this month as well to make it even better.

I have the same receiver as JT does.

You'd have to go with the RS1 and it ain't cheap to get real close.
My projector is a DLP Dark Chip 3 and they throw wonderful images for true.

Sim II has a lot of projectors that would beat that image and rival the high end Pioneer Plasma Kuros but it is gonna cost a mint.

I have a nice 55" Sony HD LCD but it doesn't compare to sitting in an actual room built for a projector.

A custom build screen using a mirror as the base and 5 coats of specifically mixed paint will get one to an awesome image but it a true hobbyist job.

The beauty is in the end getting an image twice the size of that 61" tv.
