Sarah Palin Champions Barbaric Aerial Hunting of Wolves
Ridiculous title huh? Anyways, I stumbled across this and figured I'd post it. Dallas, I believe you're the resident Alaskan, do you have any clarifying information on this?

and an article...

SARAH PALIN SUPPORTS SHOOTING WOLVES AND BEARS
FROM AIRPLANES
Governor is Strong Proponent of Controversial Alaska Program
Washington, DC - Alaska Governor and GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is a strong promoter of the aerial hunting of wolves and bears, a practice that has been condemned by conservationists, scientists and many hunters alike. It involves shooting wolves and bears from the air or chasing them to exhaustion and then landing and shooting them point blank. The animals, shot with a shotgun, usually die a painful death. The hunters involved in the program keep and sell the animals' pelts.
[View Full Quote]"Sarah Palin's anti-conservation position is so extreme that she condones shooting wolves and bears from airplanes or using airplanes to chase them to exhaustion and then shoot them point blank. Most Americans find this practice barbaric, but it's routine in Alaska under Palin's leadership," said Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund president Rodger Schlickeisen.
Sarah Palin has supported aerial hunting since taking office despite the fact that the National Academy of Sciences, the National Research Council, the American Society of Mammalogists, and more than 120 other scientists have called for a halt to the program, citing its lack of scientific justification and despite opposition from many hunters who see it as violating the sportsmen's ethic of fair chase. Palin in 2007 even proposed offering a bounty of $150 per wolf, as long as the hunter provided the wolf's foreleg as proof of the kill. And just earlier this year, she introduced legislation to expand the program and derail a scheduled August 2008 citizens' vote on the issue. The bounty was determined to violate the state's constitution and her legislation failed.
"Sarah Palin's positions against America's wildlife could put her to the right of even the Bush administration," said Schlickeisen. "She is a promoter of one of our nation's most ugly and cruel wildlife hunting programs and Americans deserve to know her views on such matters before they vote."

Got no problem with that program if there is a good reason it has to be done. Much more efficient doing it from airplanes. Now you have to show a real good reason. I frankly think all hunting outside of bow and black powder is pretty much an atrocity anyway. Its no real challenge. So instead of using a high powered rifle at 500 yds you use a high powered rifle at 1500 feet altitude. Whoopeee.

I think it is done to keep the population in check. I have no problems with it if that is the case. Also, you are not shooting a bear or wolf with a shotgun from a helecopter.

WOW! Are you kidding me?
Controlling the population of wild wolves and bears by any means to protect areas that are normally inhabited by people is commonplace.
This once again is a mountain out of nothing really. The attacks on Palin in the last week have been ridiculous and it is painfully obvious the left is scared to death of her.
Keep it going Sarah.

Ah, it's not an issue of sport then, I knew there had to be some clarifying information that was left out. I don't really think it's a "mountain" of an issue though, it's just the view of an Animal Rights and Conservation group who I don't think many people have heard of. I doubt anyone, outside of that or similar groups, would let this influence their view on the election though.

First, your title is not the title of the article. You used the word barbaric. Second, the information was right in the very article you posted.

I just used the title of the video on youtube actually and the article leaves out the fact that it was sponsored in designated control areas. That's why I asked for clarification from Dallas, as he's been helpful on other Alaskan misinformation stories. No harm intended, honest.

Oh no worries, I know that a lot of untrue attack posts do get thrown around so I understand where you were coming from.

On a more intelligent subject matter, don't know if this is your little one StarKist but if she is, you got trouble on your hands buddy.
Those eyes are to die for. She is going to have them lining up to talk to her. I don't envy you.
