Obama steps in it... again...with "computer illiterate" ad

After making fun of McCain for not knowing how to use a computer or send e-mail, it turns out he never learned....because he cannot use a keyboard (and one would presume a mouse) due to injuries.

From the Boston Globe, March 4, 2000

McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain's encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He's an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can't raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.

but he can sign documents? isn't that weird that he can use a pen, which requires actually holding and manipulating an instrument over tapping on some keys. You only need one finger really. And with technology the way it is going, you can even use a stylus to type. how is that different from using a stylus to using a pen?

You ever had your shoulder blades broke repeatedly from torture?

The weight of his arms would make it almost impossible to type for any extended period.

I never noticed it till I broke my collerbone a few years ago .... but please, keep mocking a Man who was brutally tortured for 5+ years.

who says I was mocking him? I just question the fact that he says he can't type but can use a pen. No one is asking him to be on the computer 8 hours a day. In fact, most people agree that typing is generally faster than writing. The fact that he is saying he is learning to use e-mail and internet now undermines the fact that he says he can't type. That just means he's SLOW to start using modern technology, not that he can't type because of shoulder problems.

You don't necessarily have to type to send e-mail or use the internet.

but you do if you want to use your blackberry. he can punch numbers on a phone but not a keyboard?

Besides, he's saying he's learning to go online by himself now. Usually, that requires so clicking and typing.

It isn't like I don't think John McCain CAN'T use a keyboard, it is that hasn't learned to use it. Hey, more power to him if he's trying to learn, technology isn't exactly easy. I probably don't know all the features of my phone.

I just don't think he can use the excuse of shoulder problems to say he can't use a keyboard.
