Lest anybody freak out and think "OH...MY...GOD! They DID create a black hole and just don't know it yet!" - realize they've yet to actually smash protons together. One of the reasons I've also been laughing at stories proclaiming "There! No end-of-the-world, so the nay sayers were wrong!". Fact is they've just been testing it, but something went "snap". And I'm pretty sure it's an expensive "snap". heh.

I would tend to agree, but that's easy to do when we've yet to see fruits or benefits from the research, which there likely will be if this thing is up to snuff. Either that or they'll create a microscopic singularity that consumes us all. In either case, I think we'll get *something* for our money. I'll add that it would have been nice for this to be completely privately funded.

I guess... but think of all the middle-eastern countries we could have invaded for what this thing has cost.
