I expected more from her. This was a singularly unimpressive interview that explains why the McCain campaign is shielding her from the press. But the curtain is slowly being pulled aside and the Wizard of Oz exposed as the nonentity that he is.

Honestly, that's probably the best answer to that question in the circumstances, because McCain probably hasn't been pushing for a ton of regulation over the years... nor should he have.

But given the climate, she can't just say that. So what should she do? Lie? Make something up (ala Biden)?

Funny, I didn't see Couric pounding Biden with follow-ups like that when he claimed FDR was President during the crash of 1929.

Yes because not realizing someone is in a wheelchair is the same as not being able to come up with an answer because you're unprepared.

Nobody's going to care about Biden's innocent screw up, compared to a VP candidate that's trying to defend her running mate and when asked twice (by her hand picked interviewer...again) to give examples couldn't, and gave the pathetic...

All joking aside, it's a bit disturbing. She was impressive at the convention but really does seem like nothing more than a hockey mom plucked from middle America and thrust into the political limelight.

Perhaps these interviews are misleading and she'll hit her stride yet.

What you have to be careful of is lowering expectations so far that if she just strings two or three words together in an answer at the debates, she'll be "surprisingly good".

It worked for the Bush campaign. They set expectations really well.

For the life of me I can't figure out why McCain would want to shield her from the press... Just put a helmet on her Big John... maybe some elbow pads and training wheels, too.
