Default My encounter with Philly fans at last nights game

For all the bad rap that Eagles fans get, I have to give props to the ones I was around last night at the game.

My cousin was sitting in section 17, that’s corner endzone, and called me on the cell phone about 40 minutes before kickoff. He told me that about two thirds of the rows immediately around him were saturated with Philly fans, all sporting jerseys. The majority of them were down from Philadelphia on a fan travel package, set-up by a agent in Philly.

I went around from my seats to say hi and check it out. I ended up staying in sitting with them almost 90% of the game.

Now, while they were loud, boisterous, and yelling the obligatory, "E A G L E S” at the drop of a hat, and for no real apparent reason, I had a great time bantering back and forth with the majority of them.

Almost to a man, the trash-talking was good-natured, and not meant with malicious intent or disrespect.

Several times during the game, I had guys and gals alike, stopping as they passed by up and down the road in front or behind us, who stopped and clapped me on the back and shook my hand, most commenting about the good sportsmanship shown to them not only at the stadium, but in most of their other stops during their stay here.

While I did see the occasional “bowing-up” by Pokes and Eags fans as the game got into the late 3rd and 4th qtr, I never saw a punch thrown, it was mostly just wannabe tough-guys, fueled by too much beer and "out-of-town syndrome". All the skirmishes were minor, and quickly quelled by Texas Stadium security and Texas DPS troopers.

When I finally went back around to our regular seats towards the end of the game, my wife said she'd been scoping me out through the binoculars, and was jealous that I looked like I was having TOO a good time.

Me and my cousin were in Section 18.

We were totally surrounded by Philly fans and yes they were loud and being very arrogant. I went back and forth with them all night and it was in all good fun.

Thanks for this; it's good to see there are still fans who "get it" and are good sports about their team, win or lose. The players and coaches usually congratulate each other after the game; after all, it's an athletic competition, not a gangfight, although there are times it is hard to tell them apart.

It's more fun when you win. I went with that same MLV package that the Eagles fans go with in the past. The Eagles chants and singing gets old really quick.

Hell yeah it does. Every time they scored, they sung their little Eagles chant.

We just have to hope they dont win a Super Bowl this year.

LOL, honestly, towards the end of the game the four or five loudest guys around me started chanting, "our house, our house, our house".

After about the fifth time they did this, I turned making a sweeping gesture with my arm around the stadium, pointed out the puddles of water that they were standing in, and said, "if you guys want this pig's waller so badly, you're MORE than welcome to take over the mortgage!!!" They rolled!!

'Course, I'm funny like that... :p

By the way Mick said on his radio show this morning that in all his years as a Cowboys fan he has never seen more fights at Texas Stadium. He said he saw in one section two fans were trying to throw another fan over the ramp.

Yea Mick, sec 17 & 18 were definitely the "700-level south" for those guys last night.

Again, I really had a great time with the majority of them.

Even the ones that were slightly belligerent in the beginning, mellowed pretty quickly, and were generally the ones coming up to me and telling me what a good time they had.

Oh I'm sure there were some ugly incidences, but by and large, when someone did get out of hand that I saw, especially if it was Eagles fans, other Eagles fans were quickly the ones jumping in to squash the situation.

Yep!!!

At first they would talk sh*t to me and alot of the other fans, but would later extend their hand to me and let me know that it was all fun. I like to do alot of scouting, as you all know of the other teams, and I learned alot of stuff from them as far as who they like and who they dont like on the team.

Also, I was quite surprised at the number of Cunningham jersey they were wearing.

They were fine by me, even though we jaw jabbed back in forth the entire night.

Did you happen to catch when Rowdy came over into the aisle between section 16 and 17?

The top of the aisle was jammed with Eagles fans going in and out to the concourse, several of them grabbed him and pinned him up against some seats. It looked like one or two of them were trying to push him down the steps, but he grabbed hold of the seats and steadied himself, and got the heck out of there, QUICK!!

Man, I've never been so disapointed in not seeing someone horribly maimed in my entire life!!
