I love Casino gambling...living in South Florida..we (the wife is also addicted) go to Biloxi...we stay at the Beau Rivage and plunge our guts out...my wife on the slots.often eating at the machines...she brooks as she likes to say no idle time (like in a restaurant)....I play mostly blackjack....I have tried to count cards but therunning count gets all jibberry as I suck away on my scotch...I do play perfect stratagy which I had memorized until I found out that you could buy one of those plastic cards that gives you all the plays...I actually win more than I lose simply because I get up when I'm way ahead...Mrs ibis always loses...she plays mostly the nickel slots....9 times 5 or 45 nickels a spin....she is never more happy...as for me..I get to feel like a big shot..they get to keep our money....a perfect trade off...thank you Trent Lott,thank you Mississippi....

Anyone who gambles, in toto, has lost more than s/he's won - unless the gambling lasted just one day.

I'll admit I was a big overall LOSER when I played blackjack like I now sportsboard - a BIGGGGG LOOOOOSER.

All I do is join one of those pick 'em leagues against the spread, see how awful I do, and I'm convinced to never take up gambling. I'm one of those dorks that enjoys the attractions more than the gambling in Vegas. Gambling is one vice I'll never have to worry about.

...yes,like the curveball flailing Mister Henson,I play third base but,I'm not religious about it...I play $25 blackjack,which at the Beau you can find being delt from a single hand held deck...they have cut the BJ payout down to 6 to 5 for the single deck (opportunity) and they seem to be more openly on the look out for counters...the Mezrich book...'Bringing down the House" has made a lot of kids...when they aren't busy with hold-em into counters...this Tanksgiving will be our 22nd visit to the Beau....we play big enough for us to have a host...we also don't take advantage of the House since my wife simply won't eat in their high end restaurants....to much time is taken away from what she wants to do which is plunge...we stay anywhere from 3 to 5 days and when my wife is hot...she will not change clothes...bathe yes,underwear yes,but everything else nope...not until her luck turns...

Single hand deck. LMAO. I could count those cards. The shoes in these NE pits are four deckers.

I only gamble once or twice a year now..we always end up in Foxwoods after hours on New Year's Eve (to see in 2000 we went to Vegas - did the helicopter ride over the Canyon, nice), and on my birthday, sans credit cards and check book. But that is IT. In the day we could spend two weeks on the best comp hotel rooms and buffets in Atlantic City - that was my big loser time. Loved to go head to head with the dealer, often won a lot, always gave it back. Reformed now, tho.

My coup de grace came on a Friday nite in Nov 96 when I blew 17 grand at that sucker pit Mohegan Sun. I lost a very fast 1000 on a five dollar machine and just HAD to get it back. My downfall. After you change 10,000 they ask for your social, so I kept moving around - didn't matter, I'd draw two nines, split, double down, and the dealer would blackjack. Just one of those nights, sigh. My husband was with me and he never said ONE word to me, just sat or stood beside me STARING at me - STARING at me as I kept writing checks, gruesome.

The ride home up I-95 was one of the worst times of my life. Not a word til we were almost home and than he asked me "well, how do you plan to make up that 17,000". I said "I will stop now". He said, "oh no, you're getting a second job and not quitting til you make 17,000." I did, it sucked, I quit gambling.

But you know what? I don't drink, or do a drug harder than aspirin but I think I understand what addiction is - I swear for me waiting for that card to turn over was orgasmic, win or lose, a thrill, a serious adrenaline rush, and tho I played 15, 25, or 50 dollar tables - for some reason I was always betting a grand a hand while everyone else was betting 50. And wondering why my tablemates weren't concerned with my losses, LMAO.

Think of me the next time you hand your wife some money for the slots and slip her an extra C note or two - and thank the lord she isn't me.

Those offshore internet books....I have been tempted, but no thanks. Anyone who went to BC had a course in sports gambling (it was part of the extra-curricula long before Dan Henning got bagged, and I wasn't the only student who had to take out a student loan to pay off what she lost on that infamous Testaverde collegiate finale

Now I feel like I LIKE football too much to have to think about it in the way it takes to have a shot at successful sports betting. So I avoid the internet betting, if not the internet shopping.

Re the fateful blackjack night It was a GOOD thing the sum was that high - there were many many nights losses reached 5 or 6, and the total losses have to be over 100 - but that one was big enough to convince me you cannot get it back, and if you play to win back money, you're twice the fool.

I don't cry over spilt milk, just try to learn from my mistakes. My husband to his credit only tossed it in my face once - when I was nagging him to write a check for the Catholic Charity Fatima Camps, and he said he could have added 17,000 to this number. His very understated message was how disgustingly bourgois you have become - losing enough in a night to feed a family in Timbuktoo for a decade. I must admit, gambling always left me with the deep sense of shame and guilt that throwing money away should for anyone with near 400 years heritage of Yankee tradition and 20 consecutive years of Jesuit education.

Last spring, I did try to browbeat a Skins fan into a 1000 bet on our respective 2004 records. I was thinking the other day how that turned out - both teams 3-6 and sinking, if not sunk. Nah, with football I can't trust myself to think just with my head, (tho that was a safe a bet as I've ever suggested, they stink WITH talent) and that's the recipe for disaster.

As for money and marriage, the research consistently maintains it's the number one source of martial arguments. Sex (I find that odd, what's to argue about, you either do it or you don't) and children being next in line. Outside of being ordered to that second job, we have never so much as mildly disagreed about money. I know we don't haul in you and your wife's income, but he comes from money, (I live like a freaking queen overseas) and knows how to make it here, as well as how to invest it. Here in the US everything is joint. There is an understanding that what's his is mine, and what's mine is mine. I deposit my pinmoney income into joint accounts, but if I choose to spend it, (not LOSE it), nothing is ever said. He was raised a Muslim and the tradition is that anything a married woman makes is for her security, not the household, all of which which is the husband's obligation. Altho he was never devout, never even practiced and took to the ulema's dogma about as well as I did the kindly priests', traditions are part of culture, not just religion. That is one I particularly like. :p

I got lucky, I know it....in every way... 15 1/2 years ago when I said "I do", and knew it then, of course. The one thing in this world convinces me there could be an Almighty are the two best people I ever knew - my father and my husband, and how something more than mere fate had to have had a hand in my (non casino related) luck. :p
