OT: How would you define a sight adjustment

One of my friends and I were talking about football and the conversation got into sight adjustments made by the QB. I'm horrible at explaining things, but can anybody give a simple explanation of a sight adjustment?

I think it's more for players like Quinthy Carter...it's where they bolt a scope to their elbow...helps with accuracy.
