"Elitism" implies a certain state of mind, i.e. a condescending, "I know what's best for you" attitude. Bill Clinton and GW Bush are two Ivy League-educated millionaires, but nobody in their right mind considers them "elitists." McCain either.

I agree with Clinton and Bush, but I think McCain has an elitist streak in him.
I don't think he's as bad as Obama, but he definitely has some of that attitude you describe.

How so?
"Many of the greatest things man has achieved are not the result of consciously directed thought, and still less the product of a deliberately coordinated effort of many individuals, but of a process in which the individual plays a part which he can never fully understand." - Friedrich Hayek

I think "elitism" includes having a certain amount of privilege and luxury during one's life (usually handed to them without actually earning it). I don't like many of McCain's politics and I am not voting for him, but his life story is about the furthest thing from an "elitest" I could ever imagine.
Neither do I think Obama is an elitest. The man has worked very hard for the success he now has achieved and I respect that.

The problem is that you're conflating elitism with wealth.

Elitism is when someone posts about the arrogance of the USA and thier government covers up the genocide and racism that has been perpetrated against indigenous people in their country in the last 30-50 years. Then spouts off about how the USA needs to do things differently.
For those of you that were "offended" by last 2 sigs this one is for you.
