Default TV Repair? Anyone know what to do?

My folks 52 inch, RCA, Projection style TV started looking kinda funky yesterday morning.

It looks like the screen has been stretched out. Almost like i'm watching TV inside of a fish bowl or something.

Does anyone know what can be done to fix it? If I go get it repaired for them does anyone have an idea of how much im looking to spend?

This is what the TV looks like if this helps any.

May sound like a DUH question. But have you went through the menu options and tried different settings? Could have been something as simple as a setting being changed by accident.

Sometimes on mine the aux setting button will get pushed by accident so it goes to a different input channel.

Is it HD? Does it have adjustable screen settings? How old is it?

My old roommate took about two years to figure out how to change the screen views on my Samsung plasma.

If it's old....maybe it's time to take advantage of the hot deals going on electronics right now. Good time to buy.

I've got a 65" Pioneer that had the same problem. It ended up being a part on the board. Parts and labor cost me about $400 to fix.

If thats the case here, I'd just buy a new one. They have some pretty good deals on TV's going on right now.

I haven't tried adjusting anything yet so ill try that.

My mom said she was cleaning my dads closet and knocked the breaker off and I think that may have had something to do with it.

Their TV is hooked up to a power strip and not a surge protector.

Its not that old but it was right before HD TV's became popular.

I'd say they've had it since 2002.

And it is not HD.

For the projection style of TV it had a great picture until now.

Its seen every Cowboy game since they have had it.

Hmm..that was an unfortunate time to buy a big TV. I know, because I did it too....a year later I was drooling over the HD's. Those big boy projection TV's were a pain to get dialed in, but were great once they were. I'd try messing with the picture adjustments before I called a professional...unless RCA has a free tech support line.

There shouldn't be any settings that can't be undone, so just try and keep track of what you've changed by taking notes.

If nothing works, and you can't get free help, I'd buy a new one now rather than invest in the old one, if possible. You can get a 50+ inch 720 plasma for under $1000 these days. Often times for around $750. Seems like a better route than paying $400 to fix an old one.

Good luck.

There are some really good TVs that don't have HD. I love my HDTV, but I've also got a 27" Phillips TV that I think shows just as clear a picture considering it doesn't have HD.
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!

If I had the money to spend on a new tv I'd have hd already. I'd like to have it must it's a luxury I can't afford right now.

Oh I feel you. I just happen to catch a deal at the outlet store for one of the major appliance rip-off stores down here. You know the kind. Buy this on credit and we'll charge you 30% interest-type places.

Only thing wrong was the speaker covering was ripped. They knocked off about $900. I paid it off in less than six months.

I was thinking about using my Christmas bonus money to buy a new tv but I have to go with a 720p unless I use that money as a down payment then pay the rest on terms.
