Douglas Rancher Found Liable For Detaining Illegal Immigrants 02-18-2009 4:27 AM
(Phoenix, AZ) -- An Arizona rancher has been ordered to pay more than 73-thousand dollars in damages to a group of illegal immigrants he allegedly detained at gunpoint after finding them on his property in March 2004. The Mexican nationals claim Roger Barnett yelled threats and obscenities at them, threatened to turn his dog loose, and kicked one of the women before turning them over to the U.S. Border Patrol. A jury at the U.S. District Court in Tucson found the 64-year-old liable Tuesday for assault and inflicting emotional distress. He was not found liable on claims of battery, false imprisonment and civil rights violations. Barnett lives on a 22-thousand-acre ranch near Douglas that is frequently traversed by people entering the United States illegally.

I can't believe this can happen in America.
I can honestly say that I am not proud to be an American today. This is just rediculous. I hope it gets over turned by a higher court. It's on America to protect this citizen and his rights and property. Cleary, we are falling down on that obligation. The man can't even protect his own property. What's the point?

It would have been cheaper to shoot them and have the coyotes finish off the remains.

Remember this, he was being sued for $32,000,000.00. He got fined just over $73,000.00.
I personally would like to see that overturned as well. Or I would like to see a high powered Special Interest Group raise the money for the fine through donations.

This is an example of what's in store at the U.S. Department of Political Correctness...
He should pursue this all the way to the SCOTUS, or at least sue them for damages to his property...

we should sue the government for losing the rights of our citizens for the rights of illegals.
we only have these rights because our government we elect gives them to us and protects them. if they fail to do that, our rights change.
doesn't seem for the better, does it?

Not at all... I'm sick to my stomach over this...
This is what happens when judges legislate from the bench...

The problem is it's destroying this guy financially to fight this BS lawsuit, he loses even if he wins. Love my country, fear my government more then ever.

Totally asinine. The left has lost their mind and we are losing our country.
