Anyone ever had this problem with there PS2?

I'm wondering if my system is broken, because I'm playing ESPN NFL 2K5 and every once in awhile my controller doesn't work, like if I try to return a kick my player starts to skip side to side, same if I'm trying to run a ball the running back is lightly running more like skipping.

But once I unplug the controller and put it back in, it's fine.

Whats the deal?
