Default San Antonio

Looks like I'm going to be PCSing (um, moving for all you civilian types) to San Antonio around December.

Is anyone here from SA?

Never been (other than driving through) and I'm kind of wondering what to expect.

Thanks

Had AIT in Fort Sam Houston and to this day it was my favorite place.

Now that was 15-20 years ago so I am sure it has changed a great deal.

PM Artie Lange as he lives in San Antonio.

I am sure he can probably give you a good deal of info.

Lived here my whole life. 2 weeks of winter, 50 weeks of summer. Lots of great places to eat, tons of fine women, very proud of our military folks, no state income tax, 2.35 hours to the beaches, and fire ants.

Thanks Artie.

I'll be getting there late November, early December. I'll probably be living on-post for the first few months I'm there, after that I'll be looking to buy.

If you don't mind, I'll probably have some questions for you about neighborhoods, real estate agents, etc.

This should be my last duty station before retirement, so settling down is a definite option, too.

One of these days I'd like to go back to Ft. Sam to see how things have changed since 1987.

My wife should be pleased.

We lived in El Paso for 5+ years, so it's nothing new there.

Born and raised. Great city, for places to live anywhere north, northwest is the safest. Best Mexican food, txmx, you can easliy gain a lot of weight with all the food. Hot, HOT, HOT. Generally everyone is friendly.

They had just gotten rid of Basic at Bliss when I went there for AIT in '93, (and I was 28 at the time) so I feel you on the age thing.

And it's growing leaps and bounces.
About the military, you are right, many of them get a free meal because the public here appreciates their service to our country.
I have witnessed many times GIs getting a 0.00 bill...someone paid for their meal as a sign of gratitude.

Everyone who comes here loves it...i was here in 91,92,95 and in 2003 moved here from Grand Rapids,MI.
Great,great food.

I lived there from 1993-2008, practiced real estate their for several years and left before the market completely crashed. I also drove a cab there for 2 years so I know my way around. Traffic on 281 North of 1604 is a disaster but they are trying to get a toll road last I heard. Loop 410 is considered the inner loop, 1604 is the extreme outer loop and will take hours and hours to complete so don't get lost on it. Don't speed in the inner or outer small towns that make up San Antonio.

Chris Madrids has the best burgers in town, the mexican food is not as good as the locals think but if you've never lived on the border you wouldn't know the difference, ahhh. Schlitterbahn, Sea World, & Fiesta TX (6 flags) are the main attractions to the area. Girls on the west side & south side are fast, well so are the north side girls.

Spurs fans rule the town.
