Default Computer help

http://www.dynexproducts.com/pc-599-...nd-router.aspx
I have this router and it keeps telling me a network cable is unplugged even though it's not. I'm about to re check all the wires but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions after that? should I download the firmware(what is firmware?)?

The router is saying "a network cable is unplugged" or are you getting this message in the Systems Tray (In Windows, the bottom right of the computer where the clock is) on one of your computers?

If you have a spare network cable that you know works, I would try to use that one.

I am a little confused on what device is giving the error, so it is hard to say what I would do.

yes that's what's happening. I couldn't get online because of it so I unhooked my router and put the ethernet cable in my modem(that's how i'm on the internet now) but my sister's laptop can't get online nor my home computer(the one i'm using now) when the router is hooked up.

Buy a better router. I suggest either a Linksys, Dlink or Netgear.

You could try doing a reset on the router. In other words return it to the setting when you first got it. Usually you perform it by pushing and holding the reset button on the router for 10 seconds. Then setup any security and passwords you previously set.

Don't suggest Dlink please. Netgear or Linksys only. Now, move along.

Is this a new router? It sounds like your router is faulty, or your network cable is bad. You have two network cables, try both cables from your computer to a LAN (not WAN / Modem) port and try and connect to 192.168.2.1 with your web browser.

As for the mix mode comment, the router *should* default to that if it supports B and G wireless modes.

Most of all if you haven't already, RTFM! (read the manual)

you didn't go there

The only use for the manuals is to look good on a shelf still wrapped in plastic
