Just wanted to clarify something...
Most of you probably already know this, cuz it's obvious to people with at least half a brain.
But...
Mickey Spagnola said in his post game article that Fred Smoot being hurt was big because he should of been covering Crayton on the TD play, but instead it was Walt Harris.
WRONG!
It was Shawn Springs, the 10 million dollar man.
Rookie 7th round pick, and a QB at a small college that was moved to WR in the NFL, beat #5 pick Sean Taylor and former #3 pick Shawn Springs for the game winning TD.
It's beautiful.

It didn't matter who the CB was, from what I'm hearing from the Washington media, because the CB did not blow the play. He jammed and released as he was supposed to. Taylor and Taylor alone blew it. Once downfield, Crayton was HIS man.

Smoot and Springs haven't shown me anything all year. Do they actually play better when they don't play us? I'm being serious because I haven't seen it.

I don't care. It still makes me feel better to think that it was Springs and Taylor that screwed up.
And either way, they still can't say it was cuz Smoot got hurt cuz it wasn't the backup CB lined up across from Crayton on the play anyway.
It was dumb of them to be playing their CBs up close. Dumb coaching move by their DCoord.

The funny thing, of course, is that Smoot was injured BY Taylor.

It was Taylor who screwed up, not sure how you can blame G. Williams for the call. It was a cover 2 which seems like a resonable D at that point in the game and on the field.
Springs was suppose to release him to Taylor and Taylor was to busy focusing on KJ, because they had words earlier and he wanted to knock his head off.

I dont think we have to worry about that after his episode this morning
apparently seeing his object of affection Taylor get toasted and blow the game was more than he could stand, and he went off the deep end

Do you understand cover 2?
The two safeties have deep halves, and the CBs are playing short. THere were 30 seconds left in the game and we had no timeouts, why would you want your CBs worrying about short passes? He should of been playing 3 deep or 4 deep.
Keyshawn ran a post and the two outside WRs ran streaks, that's three deep WRs being covered by 2 safeties. Of course the MLB is supposed to get depth incase they throw the post and the Safeties are supposed to pay more attention to the outside, but it was still a dumb call. You force the ball short and/or to the middle of the field and let the time tick away.

Actually I do understand cover 2. If YOU might remember there were 37 seconds left and the down was 3rd & 3 from the 39 yard line.
They were playing a defense that could not only play the deep ball, but also be effective against the mid range (10-15 yard) out that would get a guy out of bounds. That would of put them at the 20 with a fresh set of downs and stop the clock. To give 4 shots at the end zone.
This was Williams reasoning and it makes sense. He had a cover scheme that was resonably against 2 seperate possibilites that were the most likely.
But thank you for you tremendous football knowlege in explaining cover 2.

Springs did not get much if any type of jam on Crayton on that play, which is required by the corner in a Cover 2. It was a good job by Crayton and good recognition and throw by Vinny.

Man you can learn so much from this forum(sometimes). Great posts Rack and Boysfan.
That's why i'm addicted to this forum. That really helps me understand the reason behind those calls.

I was listening to Gibbs' radio show here and he was saying that they wanted to have dime package in, but the injuries to Smoot and Jimoh prevented them from doing that.
So I guess that kind of wraps this thread up in a nice little bow.
