Too bad. Deion was the only reason to watch CBS pregame. Now I can just flip between Fox and ESPN.

It was nice having another 90's Cowboys dynasty player in the broadcast booth. I always loved it how during a three year period Troy Aikman, Darryl Johnston, Jimmy Johnson, Michael irvin, Deion Sanders, Nate Newton and others were on the national TV NFL circuit getting on Cowboy haters' nerves even after their retirement.

No doubt - very annoying as an announcer IMO.

Sanders, who had earned about $1 million annually for the last two years, asked for about $2 million a year. CBS' offer had been $1.3 million a year before negotiations ended.
"I got a call from (CBS Sports President) Sean McManus on Tuesday that stated it's been wonderful and I tried," Sanders said Wednesday. "I know business is business. But it's not like I don't know the market. Just try to meet me halfway."
Said McManus: "I wish Deion nothing but the best of luck in the future. He was a terrific guy to work with."
The former all-pro defensive back had been popular with a portion of CBS' viewers but his sometimes strong opinions did not resonate with others.
[View Full Quote]CBS has several candidates under consideration to team with host Jim Nantz and analysts Boomer Esiason and Dan Marino on NFL Today, whose ratings for smaller AFC markets generally will be lower than those of Fox's NFC markets. Among the candidates are Shannon Sharpe, Rod Woodson, Seth Joyner and Neil O'Donnell. Sharpe, Woodson and O'Donnell all played in the NFL last season but are considering making the jump from the field to the broadcast booth.
Sanders had sought to receive a salary close to that of popular Fox NFL Sunday veteran analyst Howie Long, who earns about $1.5 million a year from the network. Terry Bradshaw's salary at Fox is believed to be about $2.5 million.
"My understanding is they were extremely happy with Deion. He did the job," said Sanders' agent, Eugene Parker. "The difference is what his compensation should be going forward."
Said Sanders: "I don't think anyone in the profession did as much as me. I did interviews and features. I would have done them weekly but they also had Lesley (Visser) and Marcus (Allen). A lot of guys have been around the NBA longer than LeBron James, too. But (the Cleveland Cavaliers) saw fit to take care of him. It's not how much you've been around but how much you've done lately."

Good riddance. He probably is the only Cowboys player I ever hated. Not that I didn't root for him to make a play when he was playing on Sunday, but as soon as he got off the field, I disliked the guy.
He is a cancer.

Damn, his annual Primetime Halloween feature was the only thing worth watching that show for!
I know that the AFC does tend to feature smaller markets and that their ratings should be slightly lower however, but CBS's pregame show sucks major balls! Period. If CBS had a good pregame show their ratings would only be slightly lower.
Seriously, who's gonna watch Jim Nantz, Boomer Esiason and Dan Marino when they also have a choice of watching Chris Berman, Steve Young, and Michael Irvin on ESPN or James Brown, Terry Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson and Howie Long on Fox? I usually flip back and forth between ESPN and Fox.

It's awesome that where we sit now it looks like the Bills and Niners both will be cellar dwellers for a long time to come. Berman really doesn't add anything to the show.
They should get Stuart Scott or even bring back Sterling Sharpe to replace him. I like Jaworski and Hoge in the ESPN both as well...

I really like Joyner on NFL Total Access. He is a no nonsense old school type player. As much as I hate to say it, He is much more of a class act than Ken Norton Jr.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. Verbatim. What kind of a selfish egotistical moron quits a job where you sit and YAP about football over $750k. Oh, now the great Deion Sanders can't be bothered with a mere $1.3 MILLION a YEAR... no he wants $1.5 or $2.0.
That's just insane. Plus, I never really thought he was that good. He seemed to try too hard or something, too fake, too self-absorbed in my humble opinion.

isn't Nate trying to smuggle around large quantities of weed these days??
I don't think we'll be seeing him anymore on any shows..doh..
Deion always tried to make it a show to watch, but to me, it was like the CBS guys were always trying to show that they were as cool as the Fox team.. trying to have the "witty banter" and the feel of Fox.. not working for me, they should try to find their own niche and not copy Fox

Big ol' Nate once had a gig on network TV. I forget which network hired him to man a desk but I think he worked for them the year after his retirement.

Deion clearly overestimated his worth. He's not the major face on CBS like Berman on ESPN or Terry Bradshaw on FOX.
And he was an awful analyst. I, personally, am not sorry to see him go.
I bet Shannon Sharpe will be a natural. He will have to watch out for talking too much, ala, Joe Theismann. But he won't be afraid of controversy, and that's what you need to mix into your "act" to be a good NFL analyst.
