it depends on if the window was up or down when it was broken.

call your insurance company. they should take care of it. my daughter had my car a few months ago and somebody smashed the back side window. Insurance paid for it.....

In most states it's part of your "comprehensive" package (as opposed to your liability package). You should be covered for free with no deductible. It's worth the phone call anyways.

There is no formula for success except an unconditional acceptance of life and what it brings.

1. Phone to see if there is a jobber part list for your window. If not check with auto wreckers. All will be cheaper than the OEM dealer for parts. Don't forget to buy ALL the replacement push retainers needed for this window. If you miss one it won't be pretty.

2. You have to remove inside panel to the door. Not easy to do because you will need some specialized tools. One important tool is a puller to pop off the old retainers. Use a screwdriver if you don't have one. Most door panels are not screwed in with threaded fasteners, but rather fastened in with plastic or metal grommets.

3. Have your vacuum ready to clean out the well at the bottom of the door panel.

4. Check fit of window in open door panel by raising and lowering the window while holding window in place. Amazing how many people forget to do this and put the door panel back only to find the window doesn't mate at the top.

5. Line up new retainers you have and push interior panels back in place.

This is a simplified version of what really happens and things are different from one manufacturer and model to another.

Most of the time with a broken window you don't have to worry about the lift mechanism or the window seal, but check them out anyways. If you are at the jobber store you might as well pick up everything you need at once.

In my area I know the jobber stores who sell to the autobody shops. That's where I source parts. Here's a net example of a company that sells these retainers for door panels.

Take it to the shop, does the cost really matter (if it's to much you might not replace it???) lastly don't do it yourself.

This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

I've had to replace windshields on pretty much every car I've had due to flying debris putting unrepairable cracks on it. I paid out of pocket and it was about $200 each time.

I know someone who needs a new windshield on his luxury car in the worst way and it's about $3k.

For three windows, I'd call my insurance company and see if it's worth filing a claim.
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!

I do know that the insurance will pay for a windshield being cracked. It is a safety hazzard and they fix it. I have had several windshields and several windows broken and have yet to pay the 1st dollar for them. That is why you have comprehensive insurance. No deductible.
