On the Right Path?
I know many of us have heated debates about QB and some other issues regarding the team but all in all do you guys feel this team is on the right path to get back among the elite teams in this league? I'm not talking Super Bowl because after all that takes a bit a luck as well as talent but to be among the top teams once again and being a true contender. I would like to think so but would like to have your opinions.

<sarcasm>No, No, a thousand times NO! The team has veered off onto the path of darkness with the hiring of Parcells. What a joke. The guy is an over-rated loser. The team would be in much better shape if they were still punching in on Campo's time-clock and with Hutch running Coslet's offense.
I still get a tear in my eye when I re-watch Jerry Jone's speech from Hard Knocks where he's talking about a statue of Campo. Man, it made me want to strap on the old pads and knee braces and hit the sleds for the little man.</sarcasm>

Anytime you have BP on the sidlines, you are on the right path. I know QB is a problem, but look at all the teams in the league and you will see alot of teams with that problem.

Great question.
I feel that the team is headed in the right direction, but I am a little uncomfortable with all the unsettled positions on the team. If QB were the only concern, no big deal. But with QB, RB, C, RT, RCB (and arguably both OG and one DT) as question marks, I'm not sure what the future will hold in terms of immediate success.
I doubt the Cowboys will find answers for all those question marks, but if about half of them can be answered with solid starters, then the Cowboys should make the playoffs again. Also, I think that would put them in an enviable position headed into the 2005 draft.
As of right now, I'm happy and looking forward to the 2004 season.

we are fefinately headed in the right direction. our salary cap is in great shape for the next couple of seasons. we are young and have talent and potential at important positions. and most important we have the best coach in the nfl. we do have a lot of questions unanswered like CB, WR, RB, QB, and DT but each position as promise. we will be an elite team again real soon.

Main reason for this thread was to see if we could all reach a common ground, we all have different ideals of what this team needs to do get back to the top, but in looking at the overall picture I too think this team is heading in the right direction and that the question marks that we may have will play themselfs outs be it this year or next

On the right path
Yes, I feel that we are on the right path. Of course I've always felt that Jones had the right path in mind he just had to go thur some experiences and learn from his mistakes. Like over paying for athletes, which put us in slary cap he!!, being cheap when it came to HC, and the coaching staff, Letting the coaches do their jobs, which he still kind of gets in the way, using the GM title as his excuse, but he is learning how to become a good GM, so I can deal with is mistakes there as long as we have a great HC. but he'll get it down. I've always liked him as an owner because all he wants to do is keep his team on top, and he'll do whatever to accomplish that. His biggest problem though is his PATIENCE, and I can really relate to that because I'm an impatient person, I think he is learning to be patient, though, I have, there are some things a person just has to be patient with, and no matter how hard you try to rush things, that one thing just takes it's own sweet time.
Now I know we still have hoes to fill, like RT, OG, DT(1 maybe 2) we have LBs on the roster that will eventually step in and make those spots better (hopefully) RC, we may have the answer on the roster already this TC or Season will show us that. WR, we will see this season if AB, will be one, we know we will eventually need another one or two. RB we will know this season if we will need to address that in the next draft. DE, well even if Wiley gets back to his probowl form we will still need to address that next draft,(I think. Youth is the reason ).
FS, we will need to address that next draft (unless they finally realize that Hunter is really a FS and not a Corner, but that is up to Hunter).
RT and OG may have been answered in this draft, I'm hoping. It looks that way on paper anyway.
I know we will not get every hole filled like we want but if we get decent players in a few of those spots and have good depth we (role players) players coming together and working as one we will be a contender, and champions.
That is all the spots we need to address at this time.

We have lots of questions about the Oline.
We have Adams as LT.
Will Allen get back in shape and in peace with Parcells?
Will Johson be good with his knee problem?
What do we have on the right side? Just hopes...
No matter of who you have as QB or RB or even WR if you don't have an Oline you don't have offense, and that makes me really nervous.
On defense, if we can get a RCB and improve at FS, we should be pretty good.
We are improving, but there is still many questions in to many positions.
Lots of pieces have to fall in place.
We have lots of good backups but who will be the starters.
I'm really anxious to get to training camp and see who will do better than others.

Great points Hockix and great thread Doomsday.
I agree with Hockix. it all starts with the O-line. If the cowboys can dominate at the point of attack, they can win with an average qb, because the running game should be solid. But I hope they get better than average qb play.
I think the defense will be better with the addition of Wiley. Hopefully, by getting added pressure on the QB, that will make up for any problems at the right corner spot. And Roy Williams is now a young veteran, I think his play will only improve with the added experience.

We are definetly on the right track. We have lots of reasons to be optimistic about the future. If we get lucky and most of this year's picks turn out to be really good, we will have come a long way on our journey back to the SB.
I have a lot of faith in Hunter and Julius Jones. I don't remember seeing Rogers or Peterman play in college, but I like what I've read about them. Maybe we will get lucky on Newson and/or Clayton(?) and end up with a sticky fingered receiver who fights for the ball. Lot's of hope here as I see it.

Like others on both sides of different issues it does get old fussing and fighting when in the end we all want the same thing which is the Cowboys getting back to the top of the heap. We just all see the road to the top a bit differently which is alright in my mind as long as at the end of the day we can all stand together as Hardcore Cowboy fans.

I agree completely that Dallas is on the right track to becoming elite once again. Below are my reasons:
1) They are stockpiling young talent. A large portion of them from winning college programs.
2) Not blowing their future on older (risky) high dollar free agents.
3) On board is one of the greatest all-time coaches that seems to be embracing
the challenge of rebuilding the Cowboys. Plus, he is showing the type of patience in this rebuilding that indicates he is in it for the long haul.
4) Dallas has two first round draft picks next year.
5) Dallas already has a dominant defense. Defense wins championships.

LOL David. But I think most people really feel that way. Dooms made a good post. and few people want to chime in. Now imagine if he had been obnoxiously spouting about how good or bad the qb play was going to be this year and guess how many people would have an opinion.
