WFAN (Tuna's best buddy) on Dallas QB situation
FWIW.
Here is commentary from Francessa from WFAN on the QB situation. Mind you he speaks almost daily to Tuna. Standard disclaimer that this his his beliefs, not what Tuna told him.
Reason Vinny played the last month...
33% Tuna wanting to win... kills him to lose
33% Loyalty to vinny
33% saw NOTHING from his other players (QBs)
Said it was a fact that if Tuna had to go another QB (ie. Vinny hurt, etc.) it was going to be Romo. As a result...
Said Henson was "back to square A"... should be a "backup for 2005". Not ready to play (no surprise here).
Reitterated his belief that the starting QB for 2005 is not on the roster. Feels Tuna will NOT get a real starting QB as none are available.
90% chance Tuna returns. Feels Tuna will be on a 2 year plan now... going crazy bringing in players to win now since this year was an unmitigated failure. ONLY possible trouble spot would be if Jerry feels he's mortgaging the future as a result of the 2-year plan.

Francesca doesn't have much credibility since Henson was the #2 QB in that game making him the go to guy if Vinny was hurt. It looks pretty obvious he just doesn't want to put Henson out there too soon, but the fact he put him back to #2 in the last game shows that he is the guy he feels has the inside track to be the guy in the future.

Why can't we just devlope are own players....
I hate this " I'm too old too lose" crap....
I hope we don't go the quick fix and fork over huge bonues for overhill players.....The likes of a Kearse, Owens comming available doesn't happen to often.
Teams don't let real good player hit the open market.....unless the player demands a trade and usually that team asking price is too high.
Look at the money we wasted this year on Vinny,George,Wiley.....and we thought we were frugal (sp?) in FA.
Then again....if our past drafts are any indications.....its our only hope seeing how we can't draft worth a crap.

How many best buddies does Tuna have in Media? I heard it was Summerall before?
If Romo would go first instead of Henson, it sure seems funny way of showing that, by asking Romo to go NFL Europe ( as reported on Star Telegram last week) and while nothing of that sort has been asked from Henson yet ( according to Star Telegram again).
Now Henson could be asked sometime this week or coming weeks, but surely the first candidate for Europe seems to be Romo, which makes it very ulikely he can be the starter come 2005 if thats what they might be forced to do.
Anyway, I don't give credence any of the this supposedly Parcells "Buddies" or "Best Buddies" have to say, especially in the media. Untill it really happens. Because all them seem to speculate what Tuna is thinking rather than anything said to them, which pretty much seems to be everything being sepculated in the media anyway.

LOL. He was talking about for the remainder of the season... not in one specific game. Was emphatic that this was a fact. Most of what Francessa was saying all year (and last about QC) i've been hoping to be false but it's all correct in hindsight.

So 66% of the reason was NOT because Parcells sees nothing from Henson/Romo. And considering one has been out of the game for a few years and the other was a division I-AA 2nd year guy...you can't expect much, yet.
I still have hopes Henson when given the opportunity can be the guy. I hope when is next year. Or that someone else (other than VT) is brought in to start, as Henson continues to be groomed.

Honestly, I think it's time to get a new coach who doesn't have a 2 year plan. I want a guy who cares what is going to happen with the franchise long term. Give me a Bob Stoops or someone who has some life in him yet. The fact that we could win nothing last night by winning and he still started Vinny is just stupid. The man has lost it. "IT" being the ability to coach with an eye towards the future. I am tired of the QB being our achilies heel. And now it's the coach becasue he had "Loyalty" to a player who sucks. It's just plain stupid.

Thats been already posted on this site numerous times already, on the purported Friendship with Tuna. STarting last year, when Francessa claimed that BP would go with Veteran QB as starter or at least Backup in 2003.

We will be about $25M under the cap for this offseason. BP built up the Jets to be competitive long term after he left. I don't see him mortgaging our future. He will get solid FA at a good market value without overspending. Most of us were thrilled when we signed VT, Wiley, and especially George.
Too bad most of us turn on our team when thinks don't work out! It's always a crapshoot in free agency, but last season was smoke and mirrors and unfortunatley fooled BP/JJ to think we were better than we were an overachiving Campo team with a few old BP vets. The overhaul that really needed to take place will now start taking place in March.

Most?
Wiley was the only one of the 3 that got support, and that was only because EVERYONE hated Ekuban. We also did not want to overspend on anyone not named Kearse.
Most were wanting Collins or Warner over Vinny.
I'd say 75% were against bringing in George.

With parity, a two year plan is just about right.
