What is the longest you have had to commute to work? - Dallas Cowboys Forum

I have alway been lucky that the furthest or longest I have had to drive to work was 15 minutes. The last 12 yrs, the longest I had to go to work was about 25 ft as it was out of my home. Now I may be taking a job that is about an hour and fifteen minutes away. I am trying to convince the wife to move about 30 minutes closer but she is pretty adamant about not doing it. So, has anybody had any longterm experience with a daily commute of an hour or more and how long did it get before you were burned flat out.

I don't know if that is going to be a deal breaker or not.....may have to get a new wife.

I too cannot live far from where I go to school. I currently live 2 blocks from my school office, and cannot fathom people battling traffic each morning and late afternoon.

The longest "commute" was my senior year in college when I lived off-campus, on the opposite side of campus from where my college/department was. Usually took 30 minutes to walk uphill (not a car friendly campus), and now, I cannot live more than 15 minutes away from my classes/office.

I would say though, that probably after a week of doing it, you get used to it.

I used to commute about 30 minutes to a waitressing job I had once. I moved to be closer to the job.

Now my commute is about 20 feet.

I've always had rough commutes for some reason, well over an hour on good days. It depends on two things: your disposition and what goes on around you. My disposition is extreme lack of patience and what goes on around me is sheer madness.

By weeks end, I am certainly burnt out and it makes doing some things on the weekend a bit daunting, especially if it requires me doing more driving. So I'm the way I am because of circumstance, but if circumstances are more favorable in your case, you might not have a problem. I don't know what it's like in Florida, but NJ is absolutely dismal: over crowded and in a constant state of construction. And heavy trucks. Lots of them.

If your commute is long because of distance and light traffic, you might fare well. Sometimes it's relaxing when you can just drive without the distractions of crazy people. If you're of mild temperament it probably won't bother you as much if there is traffic, only on the really bad days. You don't get snow and icy roads, so you have that going for you.

I've driven an hour before when I had a contract in Chicago and had to drive to Deerfield.

My current commute to the office is 45 mins. However, I work remote approximately three days a week, sometimes more depending on the week.

Our ranch is about 20 miles from where i live. So that's 40 miles a day.

When I lived in Houston, my commute was about an hour. In Austin, it was about 45 at one point. What sucked was the traffic, not the distance. Doing an hour at 70mph vs 10mph is totally different.

Since being layed off, I work out of my home so travel from my bed to my computer isn't too bad....even WITH traffic

When I was a plumbing superintendant I was driving from the west side of Atlanta almost 3 hours one way. if anyone is farmiliar with Atlanta, then Temple Ga to Habersham, which is about an hour N of Gainesville... it's amazing what you'll do to make a living...

I have a daily commute of 45-50 minutes each way, and as long as the weather isn't lousy (I'm talkin' snow and ice), I don't mind the drive to work at all... I kinda ease into my work mindset on the drive... but I have to fight the urge to speed on the drive home, LOL...

Now, gas prices are eating a huge chunk out of my paycheck, but that's another issue...

300 miles, 4 and a half hours, twice a week for about a year and a half. I'd leave on Monday afternoons or early evenings, sleep in a hotel, hit work at 6 in the morning on Tuesday and work until I was done and head back home. Do it all again on Thursdays and Fridays. I was paid for the travel time. I averaged over 65 hours per week, no overtime pay. I was in my 20s and my social life was the biggest casualty. Lost a great girl over how much I was gone and how tired I was when I was there.
