Default I Think Mike Shanahan Will Choose The Bears Over The Redskins

Here are my reasons for this.
  • He was born in Oak Park, Illinois.
  • He went to Eastern Illinois University.
  • I wouldn't be shocked if he still had a lot of family in that area. His parents if still alive are probably aging and he could be closer to them.
  • He probably met his wife in college and she probably has family there too.
  • I am guessing that he was probably a Bears fan growing up.
  • He worked for Al Davis and still has a bad traste in his mouth from that. He's not going to want a potentially as bad or worse situation with Little Napoleon.
  • He wants control of personnel decisions. That is more likely with Ted Phillips and Jerry Angelo than it is with Bruce Allen and Dan Snyder.
  • He already has rapport with Jay Cutler. No one would choose Campbell over Cutler even with the struggles Jay has had this year.
The only reason I can see him going to Washington over Chicago is for more money. If that is the clincher for him, so be it. I think there is a reason he is "very interested" in the Bears, and these are factors.

I read some blurb somewhere that he does have some family there and I think the wife does as well.

If we can't get him as a coach then I don't want Wash to have him.

Is Campbell even going to be on the Redskins roster next year?

I think he's a FA, and I guessing he probably wants out, esp after the Redskins trying to get rid of him this year for Cutler.

If that's the case, and if Shanahan goes to the Redskins, he's probably going to have to start over with a new (rookie) QB (another negative).

At least he has Cutler in Chicago.

This is an interesting thought.

If I were Florida I would go after the Coach at Boise State, Chris Peterson.

Shanahan did an interview last year and said he'll be back to win another Super Bowl. I think he is an NFL guy, not looking to move down to college.

Also, he said "If you have a quarterback, you have a chance." This is another reason he would not want the Redskins job.

Personally I think he most wants the Cowboys job.

Shefter reporting... Shanny said no to the Bears and Texans and is not interested in Dallas. Looks like Skins are a lock.

UF wants the Miss St HC ... their former OC.

I think it has been a done deal once Bruce Allen was hired.

Rumors: Zimmer or Lovie Smith for DC

I would choose the Bears too for a variety of reasons not the least of which is not having to deal with Danny Snyder and having a better QB situation with Cutler and not having to deal with going with Campbell or trying to find a QB there.

Shanahan will draft Bradford and build his team with him

Had Wade failed the last 2 weeks to win and not made the playoffs, I think he would have ended up in Dallas

Its no secret he likes Washington and Dan, but likes Dallas and Jerry a bit better

I would choose the Mount Juliet Little Bears over the Redskins.

Reportedly he already has a contract worked out with the Skins. I assume his son will be the OC. It will be interesting to see if Alex Gibbs follows. He's already got the Asst. Head Coach title in Houston.

I think if Shanny gets a good def. coordinator and isn't given too much personnel responsibility (see drafting Maurice Clarett in the 3rd round) and just sticks to offensive gameplanning/playcalling he could be very good. But at the end of the day it all boils down to finding a QB. It's pretty apparent Jason Campbell is going to be ran out of town in the offseason.

Despite labeling myself a "realist", no one understands my pain or appreciates my special truth. Stupid world.

Yeah I'm not sure he's a done deal for Washington either.
