Default Best DVDR's?

I just bought some Verbatim 4.7 GB 16x.

Are these the best or are there better?

I usually order verbatim dvd-r lightscribe discs off of newegg. I also haven't had any problems with ridata dvds either.

I prefer Fuji (never had a bad burn with them), but the cheapies I bought at Sam's last summer (50 for $11) worked without a hitch, too.

I like Verbatims, and that is what I mainly buy.

Whatever you do, AVOID the cheapo discs at all costs. Years ago, for a short amount of time, I bought "Great Quality" cd/dvds from Frys to back up my photos, music, etc., and rarely had bad burns. It seemed like a great deal at the time. Big mistake. After just a year or two, no cd/dvd drive would recognize the disc, or the files. Apparently, the cheaper discs use inferior coatings on the disc that degrade, disolve, whatever over time, rendering the discs useless.

I tried to retrieve the information anyway I could. I tried different computers, different drives, and even tried a few utilities specializing in data recovery, to hopefully save some data. I was able to recover some files, but lost quite a bit. The music I don't really care about losing, that is easily replaced, but I lost a lot of valuable photos "relatives, and friends who are no longer alive, vacation photos, etc.". Now, I only use the good stuff.

If you have any data backed up on cheaper brand discs, I highly suggest that you check them periodically. I would even check the name brand stuff just to be safe, and even reburn them from time to time, so you have fresh backups.

I forgot to mention that the 50 for $11 DVD-r's were Verbatims, so just because something is "cheap" doesn't necessarily mean it's poor quality.

By cheapo, I meant the no name brands, not price.

I've always used Memorex in the 100 pack. Seems like you can get some bad discs in the 50 packs - not sure why. Just need to look for them when they go on sale.

For the most part....these have always been great for me.

Not really. Just burn at a slower speed to guarantee a good burn. The DVD quality is the most important thing.

The best blank dvd's you can buy are Taiyo yuden silver. Japanese made.

Just type in there name and you can buy them at a million places.

Some sony dvds on consumer shelfs are taiyo yuden, you have to check the label though!!!

I always burn everything with taiyo yuden and never have had problems.

they are not anymore expensive either. You just have to order them.

They can. There are some cheap ones that are good and some expensive one that suck.

I agree with theebs about Taiyo Yuden are the best IMO, though I like Verbatim too. I avoid Memorex and extreme generics like the plague.

You can check CDR-Zone for more info on DVD media.
