Default Lane Kiffin to USC

...per ESPN. Will this have any rippling effects in the NFL? Gruden out of the booth to Tennessee? An NFL coach to Tennessee?

Interesting set of dominoes that has been released with Carroll's departure.

I guess Lane got tired of singing "Rocky Top" all night long among other things.

Why would any coach at an established program take the USC job. Either you continue what Carrol did or you mess it up. I'd rather stay at Tennessee and bring them to the top of the SEC ala Saban, it can be done

I can tell you people here are very upset over this.

He may be more hated here than William Tecumseh Sherman.

Lane Kiffen? Has he ever been successful? It's amazing how many opportunities certain people get while others have to wait. It's ridonkulous

I agree, Kiffen is mediocre at best. But he's assembled a very goood, very well respected staff. Monte Kiffen as DC, Ed Orgeron as DL coach and Norm Chow as OC. That is a primo coaching staff.

Wonder what Carroll did/didn't do to alienate his former coaches?

It's a great hire. I'm just shocked he would treat Tennessee that way.

Its a bad hire since Kiffin was already being looked at by the NCAA and it will only get worse. As a COACH he has not really proven much and staffs are fluid. This smells of a quick and panicked fix by Garret who is worried about his own job. I think this implodes in a year or two. Al Davis actually seemed to figure Kiffin out a while back- which shocks me just as much.

Not so respected now. He had Orgeron call all of the recruits last night before the announcement and told them not to attend the first day of classes at UT today. That way they protect their eligibility to other schools.

Telling kids coming out of HS it's ok to break your word and setting a bad example is not something to be respected.

As a matter of fact, Monte Kiffin made a statement a short time ago that, "Tennessee will be the last place I coach."

Seems like father like son.

No respect and frankly, I think they will have more headaches where they are going once the NCAA is done with their investigation of USC.

Good for them, they deserve it.

Wasn't there some scuttlebutt or scandal with Tennessee with Kiffin there as well?

I've got to admit I'm shocked by the hire. I never saw this one coming at all.

He was taped by ESPN for something and had recruits in his office during a period where he couldn't have contact with them.
