Well, the U.S. (for obvious reasons) has halted deportations of Haitians who are in the country illegally, so if you think the refugees are going anywhere soon, think again.

Interesting.

If the Government agrees to reimburse the cities that spend money to shelter the victims like they did for Katrina Victims, I hope those cities indeed get their money back.

Not sure if anything has changed, but when I first started working for a major city in North Texas, I was told that they were still waiting for the Government to reimburse the City.

I would hope so. We're sending over plenty of aid. That's enough. I don't who these people are that get the idea that everyone in the world who goes through some kind of disaster should get to come over here.

To be honest, I think that has more to do with logistics.

Isn't the Guantanamo Bay detention camp empty now?

It could be set up as a refuge camp and would be very well protected.

Just a thought.

Like it or not, there's probably going to be several thousand of them headed here and to other countries legally. There's just simply no infrastructure left standing or functioning in that country to help all these people. I get the impression that people here in the states don't realize how catastrophic this earthquake actually is. We see pictures of a few buildings at a time, we see live reports from reporters standing in front of trees, or a ruined car or building, we don't get the the chance to actually observe the totality of it since we aren't there.

I don't know if I would want to see the headlines if we sent Haitian refugees to Guantanamo Bay.

Would be good publicity for the Marine base there.

They seem like nice people, singing church hymns when I would be cursing, but I see it turning into a disaster - especially with zero jobs out there.

Was the Dominican Republic effected by this, how come theres no aid to them?

Thanks for your rash opinions of people about whom you know nothing.
