Schefter: Jets will release Thomas Jones next week

Filed to ESPN: Thomas Jones will not be restructuring his contract with Jets and will be released this week. He'll be a free agent March 5th.

It is a business and T. Jones unlike his little brother has been a pretty good back. Wouldnt surprise me one bit to see him in San Diego for a year or two....

Thomas Jones still has 3 good years left in him... A playoff team like San Diego or possibly Indianapolis will look at him.

Nevermind the fact Jones is about the fraction of the cost. There's no way a 31 year old RB will get a big deal. Pretty much the reason he was let go.

Thomas Jones has been a solid back but there is no way I'd want to get rid of any of our 3 to have him here.

He was let go because Shonn Greene is a better back, and Leon Washington is a better complement.

Both are younger.

I can easily see a team in need of a RB besides SD overpay for him given there is no cap this year.

Jones gets 1100 yards a season in his sleep even with Leon and Shonne.

Barber..ehhh never has broken a 1000 yards. I'm over Barber. I can't see him gallop on the field any more.

He was let go because he's making alot of money with Shonne and Leon on the roster. There's no need to pay him all that money.

That's why I'm saying value wise. Alottt cheaper to cut Barber and sign Jones. You get the same production at a much cheaper price.

Barber disappointed last year no doubt.

But don't let injuries and an inefficient offensive line at times completely blind you.

Barber is overpaid sure, but you dont dump a 26 year old RB for a 31 year old, especially when the 31 year old isn't as good.
