Default Speed to burn at CFL e-camp

Hmmmmm, maybe we could find a player or 2 here at undrafted players for the cowboys?

Speed to burn at CFL e-camp … It didn’t grab the nation’s attention like the NFL scouting combine does, but the CFL held its pre-draft evaluation camp this past weekend in Toronto. And while the CFL camp has been rather pedestrian in some recent years, there was serious speed on display this past weekend. Bishop’s WR Steven Turner (5-9, 185), for example, set an all-time CFL evaluation camp record of 4.31 seconds in the 40, breaking the mark of 4.39 seconds set last year by his former Gaiters’ teammate RB Jamaal Lee, who signed a free agent contract with Carolina last spring. Turner also posted a vertical leap of 43.5 inches and posted a time of 4.03 seconds in the short shuttle which would have tied him for the lead among receivers at the NFL scouting combine.

LBs Shomari Williams of Queen’s and Concordia’s Cory Greenwood also had strong workouts. Williams (6-2, 236), a one-time Houston Cougar, for example, ran the 40 in 4.66 seconds and the short shuttle in 4.28 seconds, posted a 37.5 VL and did 17 reps in the bench press. Meanwhile Greenwood (6-2, 235) did even better, blitzing a 4.50 40 and a 4.22 in the short shuttle, while reaching an athletic 40-inch vertical and posting 24 reps in the bench. Concordia DE Chima Ihekwoaba (6-4, 255) also drew some raves as he ran the 40 in 4.78 seconds and the short shuttle in 4.24 seconds, while recording 23 reps in the bench press and a 41 inch vertical. At the same time, Wilfrid Laurier DB Taurean Allen (5-11, 195) also ran well under 4.5 seconds in the 40 posting a time of 4.44; he also recorded a 4.03 in the short shuttle and a VL of 35.5 inches.

Here are all the results from the CFL evaluation camp. The CFL draft will be held May 2nd and is open to Canadian-born players. The CFL also drafts players with less eligibility than the NFL. As such, several of the top prospects for the 2010 CFL draft such as Nevada OT John Bender and Baylor OT Danny Watkins still have eligibility with their respective U.S. schools and did not attend the CFL camp.
