Shefter says Kolb to start for Eagles, McNabb to Raiders... - Dallas Cowboys Forum

ESPN just spoke to Adam LIVE and he says Raiders made it public that they want McNabb for their star CB Nnamdi Asomugha. The only way this could happen is if Asomugha would except restructuring his contract. When asked who he (Schefter) believed would be the starting QB on opening day, he simply said "Kolb...."

Okay so I have a few questions...
1. What does this mean for the cowboys? The eagles would have a crazy secondary... Well their corners at least.
2. Why would Davis trade for a player who requested to not be sent to his team and one other out of all the teams in the league?
3. I know that Davis wanted to unload Asomugha because of his contract but would he really trade him straight up for McNabb? Or would the Eagles have to send them some kind of pick as well?
4. If McNabb blocks this trade by refusing to resign with the raiders is there a chance we could make some sort of trade for Asomugha involving Newman?
5. Do you think Asomugha will restructure to be an Eagle?
6. Do you think he would restructure to be a Cowboy?

I am sure that you will get lots of opinions on this, but I maintain it is a bad thing for us in the long term. Everyone here seems to have memories of the McNabb from 5 to 8 years ago. This one is inaccurate, more immobile, and not well-liked in the locker room. Kolb gets them younger and, while he's probably not better than McNabb on week 1, he is certainly their better option for the long term.

That doesn't even factor in picking up a big-time CB.

As for Al Davis, the guy is out of his mind.

Yeah, this is obviously bad for us. The Raiders are getting hosed.

I want McNabb to QB the Eagle for the next 5 years.

Well, if this actually happens then I am NOT content with our WR corps. Austin and Nhamdi will be awesome to watch, but we need someone opposite Miles that scares defenses.

Eagles will still have a limited offense though.

As explosive as their receivers are they are 1 trick ponies. I actually think they are a better team when Jackson or Maclin is hurt and Avant is in the game.

Also they still need to run the ball.

Both of those corners haven't had much success against Miles Austin either and with as balanced as we are the only way they can stop us is with a pass rush.

If we protect Romo than our WR's, TE's, and RB's are more than enough to do damage.

Kolb is a big unknown and will go through the struggles that all first year QB go through. The Eagles are still very weak at LB and D Line. There secondary still isn't great with the addition of Asomugha. And it is possible Mcnabb simply refuses to move and retires (which would really screw the Eagles over).

I'm not that concerned about their offense. We definitely have their number with that side of the ball. But we cannot discard that Samuel and Asomugha are both top 5 corners in the league, and that poses a problem for any offense, including ours. We know Philly loves to bring the heat, and when you have two elite CB's, it allows you to do so many more things on defense. If they acquire Nhamdi, it's a problem for us IMHO.

Why would Asomugha restructure? If I was to make 16 million and then hit FA the following year I would wait.

As I understand he has a clause prohibiting the Raiders from franchising him as well. With a possible lockout my thought would be too accumulate the payday and wait and see what happens next year as a FA.

The key to us owning their offense is that McNabb can no longer throw short and intermediate passes with any sort of consistency. He looks for the deep ball and that's about it. Our defense can completely shut down the deep ball, so we completely shut down McNabb.

On paper it sounds great. In fact it is great. But if we protect Romo than they won't stop us.

Another great receiver won't make any difference if Romo has guys in his face.

Protect Romo and we'll move the ball regardless of who they have because honestly teams with great secondaries and ok front 7's don't scare me as much against our team.

why wouldn't he? It is his chance to get off the Raiders (a team that has no legit shot).

Well, he could demand $30 million signing bonus plus salary from the trade partner to make it worth his while. Are the Eagles that down on Sheldon Brown?

Regardless, this would be another monumentally stupid trade for the Raiders unless they are getting something extra back like a first rounder. You don't trade a young All-Pro CB for an old and rapidly ageing average QB.

i was reading that this is not a straight up trade. the raiders also want samuels along with mcnabb. think it was on nationalfootballpost.com.
