Default A Clash of Kings

I'm about 3/4 into George R.R. Martin's book A Clash of Kings.

I thought A Game of Thrones was fantastic but I think A Clash of Kings is much better. I thought it was going to be just 2-3 people taking upon themselves the name of king but now the realm seems to be full of them.

That sounds interesting, what's the synopsis?

Fantastic series.

The synopsis is from Wikipedia.

A Clash of Kings picks up where A Game of Thrones ended. The Seven Kingdoms are plagued by civil war, while the Night's Watch mounts a reconnaissance force north of the Wall to investigate the mysterious people, known as wildlings, who live there. Meanwhile, in the distant east, Daenerys Targaryen continues her quest to return to and conquer the Seven Kingdoms. All signs are foreshadowing the terrible disaster that is to come.

Hey Maikeru, you do know that we have a thread called 'rate the last book you read', right?

I'm not being a smart-*** just a heads up if you don't know for some reason.

http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177673

BTW- I just ordered the first four books online about half an hour ago. I can't wait to start reading them.

I'm quite familiar with that thread but I haven't finished reading this book yet.

Thanks for the heads up though and enjoy the series .

You still have a lot of twists and turns to go by the time you finish the fourth book. That's one good thing about this series though. There is never a dull moment.

I think this was my favorite book of the series. Sooo much action.

I've got a prayer on my desk. It says, "Dear Lord, I pray that my place will never be with the cold, timid souls who do not compete yet criticize, for they never know or feel success or failure."

Dallas, I wondered if you can clear something up for me.

You gave me two maps of Westeros the other day. I am trying to figure out what are the "Free Cities" and although I know Dany's location isn't in Westeros, but is she East, South or West of Westeros.

Also, it is interesting that you say this is the best book because I believe the 4th book was the one that had the major success. Just goes to show you just how fantastic the series is.

I was curious as to the map as well and looked around and found a couple of things that sort of help put it together.

There is a map "The Lands of the Summer Sea" here:

http://www.pvv.ntnu.no/~madsb/home/read/asoiaf/maps/

Then you can read this article:

http://iceandfire.wikia.com/wiki/Essos

From what I can gather, the summer sea map is even farther east of the Free Cities and where Dany is so that section doesn't appear to be mapped yet.

I'm probably 2/3 of the way through it and I'm digging it as well. I'm hoping to finish it by tomorrow.

It's not that as much as that I work nights and it's pretty slow for the majority of the time I'm there. It gives me a lot of time to read.

Ya that site had some issues earlier but it appears to be working now.
