Is this too expensive a wish list for free agents?
I know we can't fill every hole this offseason but I was just thinking of the "must haves" that Dallas must get in order to atleast stop the bleeding. So here it goes:
Buffalo DT Pat Williams, very solid but I believe he's 33 and not a big name so will that save some? Cheaper than Ferguson?
Seattle DB Ken Lucas, atleast he's not expected to ask for Fred Smoot money.
NY Jets OT Kareem McKenzie or Pitt OT Oliver Ross for RT money.

I would not mind spending a bit more to get Ferguson, not saying to sell the ranch to do so but I would like to see us be competitive in pursuing him. Of course depending on what the Jets choose to do.

Honestly, that does not look like a terribly expensive list. I personally believe that Dallas has the money to sign these 3 and still have a nice bit of cap space left for '05.

There are some players worth shelling out a bit more for. Darren Howard for instance. He's 28 years old, averaged 8 sack/season and coming off an 11 sack season. But Charles Grant had a breakout year and the Saints drafted Will Smith, who they are in love with, so Darren Howard is a luxory .. and the Saints aren't exactly known for shelling out large dollars for luxories.
This is a player who really has no business being on the open market without a tag, but weird circumstance put him out there. That's a player I don't mind spending a little more for, because I feel you would get a good return on investment. But that list is very short.
Honestly, I don't see anything Pat Williams brings to the table that Willie Blade and Leo Carson tandem doesn't. Not only is he old, but he's mediocre. He was mediocre in his prime. I'm not sure what people see in him, other than they look at his height and weight and notice that he's fat. I have full confidence that Willie Blade can be mediocre and fat too, at a cheaper rate.

According to New Orleans papers, the Saints are looking to re-sign Howard. They really liked his ability to move to the inside on passing downs while Smith took his spot, thus creating quite the pass rush with him, Allen, and Grant.

Yes, I'm sure they would like to resign him. But they're not going to tag him. Which means they have to weigh wether they want to resign him at open market value.

IIRC I read where they were considering using a franchise tag on him.
