I've said this two years ago and I'll say it again.....
Pete Hunter is going to be a star. I've watched this guy in college and hoping like crazy that Dallas drafted him. I wouldn't worry about bringing another corner in here, except for depth purposes. I wouldn't worry about moving him to safety. He's a corner and will be a pretty darn good one. You've heard from me before and you're hearing it again.
Dorsett takes the handoff inside the Cowboys own 1/2 yard line.........there's a big hole.......he cuts right..... down the sideline.......one Viking to beat........he's pushed, but stays in bounds.......TOUCHDOWN!!!!.....99 1/2 yards......an NFL record!

I like your optimism for Hunter, and I know he has more than enough physical attributes to do the job, and hopefully, he's had enough time to get the mental aspects of the game down by now. So I am also pulling for Hunter to come through for us, and judging by the fact that Valley Ranch hasn't made any concerted effort to bring in a vet. CB as of yet, perhaps Valley Ranch sees Hunter in the same light that you do.

I hope you are right...I really do....but it really is a gamble at this time to let him be the starter without any person other then pure backups on the roster.
We will all have to wait and see how he pans out but I really do hope you are right.
He has the size, speed and I believe the ethic to get it done...now we will have to hope he has the skills and instincts to get it done.
Wishing the best for him.

I hope your right I like Hunter and would love to see him do the job for the Cowboys but I think it would be wise for Dallas to cover their bases in case he shows that he is not ready to man the outside by himself.

I have only one question. Why did he get burned last year in limited playing time ?

I am genuinely excited about Pete Hunter. I want to see this young man getting snaps with the first team defense and how he will react to being thrown out there.
He definitely struggled in the nickel package last year, but some guys respond differently in a starting role. There's just something to this kid I really like. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I have a feeling this kid might work out.

I don't think he plays the slot well. having played Safety, you would think that this would be easier for him but he doesn't really match up well at that position. Having said that, I think he does play the natural corner position much better. No idea why but it does seem to be true.

Your question implies that he got burned all the time when he was in. He did struggle, but by no means was he a Goodrich in there. He made a few plays, too. He struggled in part because he's young, in part because the scheme was a little different than the season prior, in part because he was playing inside instead of outside, and in part because he had an arm injury that he was favoring (and it took away from his playing/practicing/learning time in the last few weeks of preseason). Look at how much better he played in the last few weeks of the season, after they cut Ross.
It's not as simple as, "he got burned last year".
I'm not going to proclaim him a 'star' either. But I do think he should be able to hold his own. And I really don't think that Edwards was doing much more than that.
To any and everyone who has attempted to constructively criticize me, you sincere efforts in assisting me to help myself have unfortunately been in vain - for I have failed both all of you and myself. I like Hunter too. I hope he succeeds as well. Always cool to see the draft picks that Dallas drafted turn out well.. He has size and seems to have good instincts. I wouldn't doubt they try him out at FS as well.

First of all, every corner is going to get burned. Secondly, he played mostly nickel, which is much harder than the outside. You have no walls (sidelines) when playing the nickel corner. Thirdly, he was young. He still is young and he'll get much better. Will he get burned again this season? Yes. It's part of the job. You can't win them all.

Man let's hope so. I am still in the worried state of mind and anxious to see us go after McKenzie or Law.

Hunter was playing with a cast on his arm last season. That alone kept him from getting a good jam on the wr and being against slot guys even tougher since the guy could go two different directions off the snap.

I'm not interested in a Big Money guy, I just want a dencent addition for depth who could start if we need him to. At Corner AND Safety.
