Maybe its just me...
..but where's the harm in brining in a Drew Bledsoe to start at quarterback for a year or two? What's the worst that could happen? Oh, I know, we could begin to challenge for the playoffs again while a young stud at qb gets to mature under Parcells and behind a qb the caliber of Bledsoe.
I live here in Tennessee. Look at the way the Titans groomed McNair. Once inserted, all he did was get better........injuries nothwithstanding.
by the way, how long was Jake Delhomme in the league as a backup before he finally got it?
....I'll hang up and listen

Every situation is unique.
Some quarterbacks are thrown to the fire, and either suck, or turn into stars.
Some quarterbacks are groomed, and either suck, or turn into stars.
Two different philosophies.
I don't feel like the Cowboys are in a situation to groom anybody. Sure, we could have Bledsoe come in, but it's not like we're going to the superbowl with Bledsoe. Too many other issues on the team and too many holes to fill. Might as well throw the kid out there in the fire and start the learning process early.

I hear what your saying, especially if he's brought in only for a year. There's a small part of me that says he can be successful, but I doubt he actually would be worth it. And if so, how long are the Cowboys going to bring in washed up QBs until we let a young QB with potential play? It's just not how I want to think of our Cowboys. We need our own identity and leader at QB, not someone elses seconds...or thirds in Bledsoe's case.

apparently you guys didnt watch buffalo towards the end of the year. they finally begin to shore up the o-line and bledsoe did good. at the start of the year, their o-line was the worst in the league. i think we sign bledsoe and get a good RT and a good RG and a good fast wr and a good blocking fb besides beat up richie and a good rb to back up JJ.. bledsoe will be the great qb he used to be.

Fine line between mad and stupid. However, if I had to guess, I think your just experienced. I think you've done this before and now your just turning another card. No big deal. Sooner or later we'll figure it out.
You should just tell me know.

Where's the harm?
The harm would be a marginally talented team winning more games than it needed to while its future quarterback didn't get any better on the sidelines.
I understood not throwing Henson to the wolves this past season, but he needs to start playing soon, and it isn't like we're talking about putting him out there behind the woeful '89 line that took years of Troy Aikman's career.
The Cowboys need to start finding out about Henson on the field. He's going to take his lumps, but as long as right tackle is upgraded, he'll receice adequate protection.
We have an impressive young runner, a potential great tight end and veteran receivers.
If Parcells feels he can make a run with Bledsoe, that's fine, but the table is pretty well set for Henson to take over if he's got the basics down.
And if the team loses with him, that'd be fine, I'm not expecting a Super Bowl next season and I'm anything but allergic to great draft position.

We don't know what we have in Henson and he could be just awful, but he could be great, the issue is we don't know. That is the only problem. If he is brought in at a decent price and made to fight for the position and Henson actually sees the field in A) Mop up duty or B) Bledso struggles, I have less of an issue with it. I wouldn't mind him strictly as a back up and he only starts if Henson blows.

Would Parcells sit Henson if he deemed him as ready?
Let's not put all of our eggs in one basket and go on loosing. Winning breeds winning. Paraphrasing an earlier Parcells statement, why risk loosing the team for the benefit of one player?
Like it or not, we will not go into next season with two inexperienced quarterbacks. Whoever we bring in under Bill Parcells will have to earn the qb position.....at least I hope this will be the case.

Who knows what would have happened if the Titans put in McNair a season or two earlier. He could easily have had the same success, more or less. We just don't know.
Henson had one season with the team. I think that is enough to make him a rookie now and to get thrown to the wolves. He will have a strong running game and some decent targets. Most rookies expected for stardom are given less when they start out. Certainly more than Aikman had when he started. I don't see Bledsoe or Vinny as guys coming in and capable of leading the team to playoff victories. If that is not going to happen, then it is time to prepare for the future.

No.
But would Parcells play Henson if he doesn't think Henson will give him the best chance to win if he has a veteran he feels comfortable with?
The answer is also NO.
Next Question.
How can Henson change Parcells mind about his readiness, if he never gets playing time in actual games?
Catch 22 situation simply prolonged by the signing of a younger veteran hasbeen.
"Young man, when you throw a strike, Mr. Hornsby will let you know."
Bill Klem when a pitcher questioned a called ball to Rogers Hornsby.
