Default MySA: Cowboys defense sees need for improvement

IRVING — On the face of it, the performance by the Dallas Cowboys' defense was impressive.

After all, linebacker Keith Brooking & Co. held Washington without a touchdown in the 13-7 loss.

But surrendering a crucial late field goal marred the otherwise impressive effort, Brooking said.

“We played well for the majority of the game, but it was disappointing to give up the field goal at the end,” Brooking said. “We have to make a stop (in that situation).”

“We obviously made some mistakes on defense,” end Marcus Spears said.

The defense also lamented the fact it didn't record any takeaways

“We had one turnover offensively, and we didn't create one,” Brooking said. “That's the one thing we talked about in the offseason that we need to improve on. If you look at it on paper, we outplayed them. But the one statistic that is very key in wins and losses in this league is turnover ratio. If you can end the game plus in that category, you give yourself a very good chance of winning, and we obviously didn't do that.”

Graham Gano's 49-yard field goal with 1:50 left was his second of the game and put the Redskins ahead by the final score. Donovan McNabb converted a third-and-2 with a 10-yard pass to Santana Moss during the 10-play, 46-yard drive.

Had the Cowboys forced an incompletion, they could have attempted a field goal to send the game into overtime instead of needing a TD at the end to win it....
There's no right way to do the wrong thing.

To compete for the playoffs, Dallas has to improve here: Only four sacks against Eli Manning over the past six games!

The Boys are obviously bugged by that last offensive series by the Redskins and they want to atone for not getting the ball back sooner. I like the fact that they have a chip on their shoulder. Here's hoping Cutler, Forte, et al are wondering where the heat's coming from this weekend.
The Truth will STILL not be the first casualty of war
