Default Could Ellis Be on the Block?

I've heard it several times about how he doesn't fit in the 3-4. Could he be on his way out. His worth is at an all-time high and realistically, he could be worth a 1st with his consistent performance!

I just don't see it. I keep hearing rumors about how certain players are on the trading block because they dont fit the 3-4. I really dont think we are going completely to a 3-4 and think it will be a mix if anything. Regardless, this defense struggled way to much to start getting rid of quality players (Ellis, Glover, Nguyen (yes I think he is solid, just my opinion) just to fit a scheme. We need to keep any good players that we have on D and use FA and the draft to bring in guys that fit the 3-4 so we can slowly move towards that, if its the case. Ellis may be a bit undersized for a true 3-4 DE but I really think he could be efffective even if we did go to a complete every down 3-4 next yr, which I dont think will happen.

I say trade him. Especially if we could pick up a first rounder. I like him but he may be obsolete in our 3-4 and he has only been good, not great, for a first round pick.

I posted this yesterday...

I say we spend bigger for a change. If you're gonna make a switch to a 3-4, you need to spend and we have the early draft picks to help. Coming off of a dismal 6-10, it's time to bring in some muscle.

Trade:
1. Greg Ellis- acquire another second round pick

Sign:
1. Kendrell Bell ILB (PIT)
2. Pat Williams DT/NT (BUF)
3. Darren Sharper FS (GB)
4. Anthony Henry CB (CLE)

Draft:
1. #11- Shawne Merriman DE/OLB (Maryland)
2. #20- Marcus Spears DE/DT (LSU)
3. #42- Roddy White WR (UAB)
4. #??- Eric Shelton RB (Louisville)

3-4:
CB- Anthony Henry*
OLB- Kalen Thornton
FS- Darren Sharper*
DE- La Roi Glover
ILB- Kendrell Bell*
NT- Pat Williams*
ILB- Dat Nguyen
DE- Marcus Spears*
SS- Roy Williams
OLB- Shawne Merriman*
CB- Terrence Newman

WOW
That's unstoppable!

We already have a pass rush issue, lets not compound it by trading our sack leader please.

anything is possible. but i don't see why we would want to release a savvy vet who has been one of our most consistent players. he isn't too old. he isn't too expensive. he's just solid. if anything we should add MORE players like him. i don't buy dallas moving to the 3-4 base. not full-time and not yet. ellis might not be a "prototype" 3-4 end. but he has enough value to keep him in the "plans". i don't see how it hurts the defense to be able to rotate D-lineman and show more than one "look". he's a keeper.
