Pete Hunter to safety?
Anyone besides me think this is a possibility?
Hunter moves to safety, He’s big (6’2”/210-ish), runs a respectable 40-time (4.34), is a solid tackler and is smart. I really think he could adapt to the position change fairly rapidly. Plus, if Parcells IS determined to metamorphose into a 3-4, Hunter’s a perfect fit IMHO.
Pick up one of the top 3 available FA CB’s. I’d take Anthony Henry or Chad Scott, then Charles Woodson, then Ken Lucas or Gary Baxter.
Draft pick 1: Derrick Johnson OLB Texas
Draft pick 2: Erasmus James DE Wisconsin or Marcus Spears DE LSU

He's a decent tackler at CB. I wouldn't call him a solid tackler if he had to be FS.

I'm hoping they try Hunter at safety I know he played safety in college. Hunter did not look very smooth at CB during the pre-season and if you’re getting torched in pre-season it is not going to get better then the bullets are flying for real.

I thought he was looking much better the last two weeks before he got hurt. I really do wish we could have gotten a full season under his belt and see what he had.
Guy has all the physical tools, I think he just needs lots and lots of reps to make the game more instinctual for him.
Agree with above poster in that I don't think he's a good enough tackler to play FS at this level.

Yep...I think it's a possiblity...heck, they are trying Dantzler there...
I suppose they'll give him a shot at CB first though...we never really got to see what he had there...
The Brass has been raving about his physical skills since he put on the star...we'll see what that translates into on the playing field...

Hoping we can address our safety issue through the draft.

I just was not impressed seeing him play the CB spot and that is such a critical position in the secondary. I think he stands a better chance at FS I don't think he could play the SS spot because he is not the most physical guy but he is big enough and strong enough to play FS

I don't think that spot in the secondary is as critical if we get a true, vet FS to help out. Heck Mario EDwards survived there for years thanks to Woody and he's the epitome of marginal talent. Also remember the games where Hunter did play his 'help' was Tony Dixon, and an out of position Roy.
With safety help I think Hunter can grow into the position a little more, and if he does start to "get it" with his phsycial tools he could be an outstanding CB.
I doubt he'll ever be more than a ok FS, because again I don't think he's a good enough tackler at a position where it is utterly crucial.

I think that is the real issue...his tackling is in question for a FS...I think his coeverage skills would be a huge plus...

Pete is an ideal nickel CB, I think he had several picks his first year playing the nickel spot. He's got good size and speed to line up against a big slot WR plus he has the advantage of not having to play on an island.
I thought he played really well in the slot and started to become respectable on the outside before the injury. I don't see him being a long term answer on the outside though. First things first, he's got to come back from a nasty knee injury to play a ligament demanding position. If he doesn't at least get back to where he left off quickly (and that includes mentally), I think he'll be gone soon.
Still left to accomplish:
sign OT Winston or G Moore

Edwards was not as bad as you’re trying to make him out as. Hunter look like cr@p in the pre-season when teams are running nothing but a vanilla offense it gets much harder when the games are being played for real. I hope Dallas either looks at FA or the draft to get a RCB.

I will be shocked if we do not land a CB in FA within the first two weeks..maybe by March 5th or so. I do not think BP and JJ will let last year happen again. I'm sure they do not want to use one of the top three pics on a CB either. If we go 3-4...we need to focus ALL those pics on the front seven...

I agree and would not be suprised to see Dallas look at one of the FA CB this time around. If Hunter or one of the other young guys can beat out that FA then great but to go into the season and then find out that Hunter can't cut it would be a big mistake.
