MySA: Jones makes it official: Garrett replaces Phillips on an interim basis

IRVING - Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed at a news conference late Monday afternoon that he has fired Wade Phillips as the team's head coach and replaced him with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett on an interim basis.

The move came in the wake of the Cowboys' humiliating 45-7 loss to Green Bay on Sunday, a defeat that left the team 1-7 after losing five straight.

"It was a difficult decision for me, the team and our organization," Jones said while reading from a prepared statement. "We are grateful for Wade for leading us to two division titles, but we also clearly understand we are not where we want to be. That's an understatement and we all share responsibility."
