Cowboys players mourn end of Phillips era: 'It feels terrible that this would happen'

IRVING – The end of Wade Phillips' regime had yet to be announced Monday, but the Cowboys' locker room at Valley Ranch had already resembled the interior of a mausoleum by early afternoon. It was vacant, quiet and somber.

The few players present spoke in hushed voices, eulogizing the tenure of the coach who was victimized by their poor performance while expressing hope for the team's rebirth under Phillips' interim successor, Jason Garrett.

"I'm just kind of in shock right now," said kicker David Buehler. "It's tough. A guy you respect so much and rally around is gone."
