ESPN Dallas: Gently tapping brakes to Choice talk
Dec 6
12:15
PM CT By Todd Archer
IRVING, Texas -- As Tim MacMahon plants himself firmly in the first seat of the Tashard Choice bandwagon, may I offer a tapping of the brakes?
This is not to take away what Choice did Sunday against Indianapolis. He had 19 carries for 100 yards in his most extensive action of the season. He had a nifty 20-yard touchdown run and later a 26-yarder in the fourth quarter.
Every move he made Sunday was correct.
But let’s not go overboard. The Colts have a horrid run defense, allowing 136 yards per game before the Cowboys put up 217 yards on 46 carries Sunday. And let’s not discount the fresh legs factor either.

Yeah, why get all crazy about it. I mean the Cowboys ONLY had 81 rushing yards more than Indy's average.

All he's saying is that Choice isn't a pro bowl player now. He didn't say he's worse than Barber. I think we all realize he's better than the latter by now.

For me the real point on Choice was that he performed at least as well, if not better, than Felix Jones. May have been the fresh legs, may have been play calling, but it's there.
Same offense, same defense. Good results.

It's not just yesterday, it's Choice's overall body of work. To date, he's basically good for 90 yards every time he gets significant carries. Not bad, I say.

Archer is right. Indy's run defense stinks.
Yes, Choice definitely can make a contribution. But lets not use the Indy game as the sole basis for comparing him versus Barber.
