From another board...Ferguson in the bag
Quote:

Ferguson to Dallas is all but done. People from the office of Mr. Sexon the agent for both Ferguson and Parcells indicate that they have the NFL contract in their office from the Dallas Cowboys for Ferguson. They say the contract was reviewed by para-legals in the office and it had been signed and had been initialed by Sexon. No signatures or initials were on the contract made by Ferguson.

can't substantiate this but it's sounds good to me!

It's bogus. Ferguson is still under contract with the New York Jets and any contact whatsoever -- let alone a contract offer -- would be tampering. We can't even call Ferguson until 11 p.m. Central on Tuesday night.

From another board
I suspected as much.
Probably just the wishful thinking of a bored fan wanting to make a splash on a message board.

true or not, i hope we get him...
IMO, would be the single biggest impacting FA signing we could make.
Shore up the DL, and the entire D instantly gets better.
Still left to accomplish:
sign OT Winston or G Moore

Obviously to say a player has already agreed to a contract before March 2 is bogus, but I wonder how much tampering does go on before the free agency period begins. The rules state you can't even talk to a player or his agent before his contract expires on March 2, but you have to believe agents are getting feelers from teams about interest in their clients. Consequently, I would think agents are also putting out feelers to teams as to the range of what type of contract it would take to interest their client. I could be wrong, but I would think overseeing tampering issues would be difficult for the NFL.
Its like with the NHL when their free agency period begins on 12:00 AM on July 1st and suddenly the top players are signing hours after the beginning of free agency. You can't tell me agents weren't already talking to interested teams about dollar figures.

I agree no contract has been signed, but I wouldn't doubt that "talks" have taken place. It happens all the time I'm sure.

Well in several reports I've read in the last few days, it's been widely assumed that agents are huddling up with GMs and whoever's in charge of personnel because of the time constraints between the combine and the beginning of FA. So, I don't think it's too off the wall to assume that the contractual parameters are in place for a quick signing at March 2, 12:00 am for a lot of FAs.
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!

If you honestly think no negotiations have been going on between Parcells and Sexton, then you're blind. They have the same agent!
Someone said it in another thread. Don't you think it's kinda curious that all these players sign contracts the first day of free agency? Do you really think a team calls them and they agree to a contract within 20 minutes? Heck no, these conversations and feelers go on days and weeks before free agency begins.
It's just common sense really.

Go read John Claytons Article on the GM meetings on March 2 and the combine. Teams almost have to lay the ground work now because March 2 is the GM meetings, it is being overlooked because of this context.
They may not contact the player but can negotiate with the agent.

I never said there weren't any talks going on, atlhough I seriously doubt *specific* contract details have been negotiated. I said the claim that there was a formal contract for Ferguson that has been signed and initialed by Sexton is bogus. There's absolutely no reason for such blatant tampering when he'll be a free agent in less than two days anyway.

But that IS tampering, so if it's going on, do you REALLY think the media would get a whiff of it?? When Bill Parcells pulls down the Cone Of Silence over Valley Ranch the first day of every offseason??
While there might indeed be negotiations under way, this particular report is bovine fecal matter...

Just like it's common sense that if the Boys ARE tampering, they're gonna be quite secretive about it, thus making it VERY unlikely that any mediot would get a whiff of it...
Or does your common sense tell you that the Cowboys would be up for losing a draft pick or two??
Smarter than the av-er-age bear...

I doubt there is a contract out there being reviewed by anyone enough to make it public. But I think Parcells/JJ certainly could have been hammering out a contract with Sexton over Ferguson. Backdoor deals are made all the time in business.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.
