Same here....guy was a warrior for our team, gave it his all and despite his size he did a pretty good job, not great super stud job, but pretty darn good IMO.

Coakley has been good for what he does... but his size truly does limit what the defense can do...one of the reasons that the pass rush has been lacking is because Coakley, the few times he does blitz, gets stood up at the line because he lacks size.

I don't think his leaving would make much of a difference.
I never really minded the initial signing. He was a pretty solid player for this team from '97-'02 (I don't consider '03-'04 as anything significant), making, what, 3 Pro Bowl appearances in that stretch?

I always really liked his character and work ethic. Can't help but admire a guy who developed his strength by helping his dad lay bricks, and was able to make several Pro Bowls despite not even really being a true 5-10.

But as you said, production-wise as we stand today, his absence will not be felt. It seemed pretty evident Parcells was looking for any and every reason to take him out of the starting lineup, but James was (is) too big a stiff to take advantage of it.

I would like to see him stay, but I really think its about time Bradie James gets his shot. Beside I would rather have 6'2 then 5'10 on the outside

I feel he will be getting the axe. While the substantial paycut is definitely warranted, I don't see him taking it.

Bradie James got his "shot" and blew it. The guy is lost. He will have to have significantly improved mentally if he is to cut it as a starter. As in, know where his assignment is.

Otherwise, put a new body in there.

If brady can put it together then will probably get that shot.

First year he was too small (muscle/weight) last year when in he looked lost and too slow to make his move...more in decision process it appeared.

I haven't read anywhere that said 4pm. They have to come to terms before tomorrow before his 500k roster bonus is due or he's a gonner. That article is the only thing I've seen referring to it.
-----------------

INDIANAPOLIS - Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said if the team does not restructure linebacker Dexter Coakley's contract before Wednesday, it likely will be forced to cut him.

Coakley has a $502,000 bonus due Wednesday and is set to cost $4.7 million against the salary cap.

"That creates a decision time for us, yes," Jones said of the bonus. "I don't know that anything has to be done, but we at least have to think about it before paying it."

Coakley, 33, wants to stay in Dallas, where he has played all eight seasons of his NFL career, and Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said there is a place for him in the defense. But Coakley is likely going to have to accept a reduced role. The Cowboys are in negotiations with his agent.

"I met with Dexter. He knows what I have in mind," Parcells said. "If he wants to do it, that's fine. If he doesn't want to do it, well, we'll see that when the time comes. He has my respect as a player. I talked to him about what's going on. And I've done it in plenty of time to give him time to think about it.

I thought I remembered reading an article a little while ago that stated that he knew what role he would have to take if he were to stay and he was willing to do it.

I think he stays.

Farewell Dexter! You had heart, but definitely lack the size that the evolving NFL requires these days.

The lead article on CowboysPlus.com by Todd Archer says we'll know Coakley's future by 3 p.m. today. I'll fetch the link, and article.

EDIT: Here ya go

http://www.cowboysplus.com/topstoryn....f23017a2.html

"Decision day: Linebacker Dexter Coakley's future will be determined by 3 p.m. today. If he agrees to a restructured contract, he will remain with the Cowboys. If he doesn't, he probably will be cut because he is scheduled to receive a $502,000 roster bonus.

Vice president of player personnel Stephen Jones spoke briefly with Coakley's agent, Pat Dye, on Monday, and they are scheduled to talk again today. Coakley would count $4.7 million against the salary cap."

Default For Dallas to get better - I hope he restructures

accepts a backup and part time nickel type role job. And if injury happens we have a backup that can play.
