Default Android 3.0 UI Video

Google has released a video showing the new Android 3.0 UI. It says that Honeycomb (Android 3.0) was designed specifically for tablets. (guess that means 3.0 won't go to phones?)

Anyway, here is the video.

One of the heads of the Android department said they are trying to figure out how to get the panels to work on a phone well, which means they are not ruling out phones yet

As someone that designs UI's part time, I think this thing looks pretty disjointed and Google really needs to take their heads out of their butts and unify Android, there are WAY too many versions out there already.

A version for Tablet is great and all, but if they want to do that then there should be a) Android for Phones and b) Android for Tablets

If their history with the phone version is any meter, they are going to end up with a bunch of different versions of the Tablet OS as well.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

Google basically makes a single UI for a set Android version. The others are made by someone else.

As someone who just got the Samsung Galaxy Tab, I want to know, is this something that can be upgraded like an operating system on a computer?

I guess it would just be dependent on hardware specs. I am sure there is always a hack to get it onto your device if not meant for it, but is it capable of running it or not is different.

They simply need to ensure that licenses require phone makers to give users access to the latest version of Android.

Why they would allow those companies to bastardize their OS and then refuse to update it is beyond me.

No, and that's part of the problem. Google updates their OS but it's up to the phone/tablet makers/providers to determine what version goes on and if/when you can update it.

So unless Samsung updates their version of Android and allows you to update your Tab, you are SOL.

Android has the GPL version 3 license. Basically ANYONE can take it and make anything they want out of it.

I love his argument though.

Counts right though. There should be an OS for the phones AND one for tablets. I remember when the Streak was coming out that folks were saying that Froyo wasn't built to be a tablet OS. It works fine w/ hardly a flaw BUT it def could be a LOT better on say the Samsung S if it was strictly written and developed on a tablet.

I have Google's Nexus One. Guess who updates my phone?

They say Anroid 3.0 was specifically developed for the tablet. Google told Samsung and everyone else to wait for Android 3 before producing a tablet like the Galaxy Tab.

That is also why I never bought the Tab. I will wait for an Android 3 tablet.

From what I've been reading the Galaxy tab is going to get screwed.

I have to say though, I'm digging the Xoom. If things weren't so disjointed with the Android platform I would pick one up.
