We will likely be able to get Allen off the books if he has another dreary season. I just don't want to give up a First rounder for Ty, we can fit the money.

We can get him for $12M bonus and cheap vet money up front. I'd give him a 5 year deal. Cap of only $3.5m - thats cheap.

12 million is a lot of money up front; coincidentally isn't that what LA got?

I don't want to give up a first rounder, maybe a second. I don't think the money should be a problem.
I do think law could have three or four productive seasons here. I don't think the Patriots appreciate him as much as they should.

Are you privy to Law's contract demands? Since he denied 6, he obviously wants more.
I havent seen anything that makes me think that this is anything more that a ploy for more cash.

Same here....but could you imagine our defense if we had Newman on one guy and Law on the other? We already have a very good run-stopping defense.
Our defense would give opponents headaches just in game-planning alone.

Dead Money
I'm all for getting Ty Law, but I doubt it happens. I think $12 Mil is simply too much for a 30 year old player at any position except QB and maybe a LT.
We'd be asking for dead $$ on our cap in 2-3 years. I'd be comfortable with a 4-yr deal at say an $8 Mil SB range with salaries that bring us to a $3.5 Mil cap hit. If we get 3 yrs out of him, we're only talking about $2 Mil of dead $$.
Would that contract and a 2nd rd pick (I agree, no 1st rounder here) get it done? I doubt it, hence why he won't be a Cowboy.

I'd rather see what Hunter and the young guys can do. If we were a CB away from winning it all, I'd say sure, but we need too many things on offense to work out for me to believe one player will put us over the top.

The guy is 30 and although he played through injuries last year, you always have got to be worried about vets who start having injuries. They are often a harbinger for more injuries in the future even if they leave no permanent sequelae. Not a big deal if you're giving out a $4M bonus, but a huge deal if you're giving out $10-15M bonuses which he is rumoured to be interested in (and who can blame him when you see what Springs got).
I'd be happy to give up a second rounder for a 5-year deal with a $6M signing bonus and total value of $30M with some extra salary money in the first two years to compensate for the lower bonus money (i.e. $3M/yr so he got $12M in the first two years and then $6M/yr for the final three years). I doubt he'd be interested in such a deal, though.

Bottom line is, we are not a superbowl team this year unless everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, plays out right. Why spend all that money AND a draft choice on a guy who will be turning 30 and may only have a few years left in the tank. If we didn't have so many questions on offense, then I would seriously consider trading for him, but at this point it just doesn't make sense.

Laws salary the next two seasons are not guaranteed. He was trying to help the team out cap wise and they kicked him in the face.
Just can't see the Pats carrying a pissed off Law at $10M cap this season. This will go down like Lawyer Milloy. Only difference is Law went public in advance.
Law and Newman - we'd be odds on favorite to win NFC.

Dallas had the chance to pick up FA CB and passed on it I don't see the Cowboys changing their minds with Law. Last thing I want to see is Dallas overpaying for older players and end eating cap dollars, after all we just got out of that mess and i see no need to repeat history.

Pats added older Vets all over roster, Brown, Phifer, McGinnest, Bruschi, Washington, Otis Smith, Antoine, Hamilton, Harrison, Buckley, Cox, Ted Johnson on and on
Sprinkle that experience on a youth roster of talent = winning.
Look what Richie Anderson added last year.
Law is a year older than Wiley!

Nors go cheer for the Pats then. Look Dallas spent over 4 years of being in salery cap hell where we could not get jack in here, we ended up being able to afford broken down players looking for 1 last chance. Being stupid with our cap is not a great ideal and as for the Pats I do not see them bending over for Law's contract demands. Look the guy has good talent and at a cap friendly price I would love to have him but that is not going to happen, Law damn well know this is his last chance for a high dollar contract and Dallas would be foolish giving a 30 year old CB big money only to turn around in a year or 2 and eat the remainder of the contract, we have done this before and it comes back to bite us on the ars

I cheer for the Cowboys
But clearly Bellicheck/Pioli is the best in todays era on building a Team?
You need Veterans to win in the NFL.
