Combine kicks-off in Indy … The annual pre-draft NFL scouting combine gets underway later today in Indianapolis. The first group to arrive in town are the offensive linemen and TEs who will undergo orientation, as well as preliminary medical testing later today. The offensive linemen will be on the field for their on-field physical testing and positional drills on Saturday.

Drug rumors embroil top QB prospect … Pretty much all fall there whispers about off-field issues involving Arkansas junior QB Ryan Mallett, although there were few details. However, with the NFL community set to convene at this year’s scouting combine in Indianapolis later today, those whispers have evolved into full-blown rumors about drug usage. Needless to say, they are reports that Mallett will have to deal with at interview sessions with prospective NFL employers at this week’s combine. It is also important to remember, though, that these are just rumors and while there is often fire where there is smoke one is also reminded that former Miami QB Dan Marino, arguably the NFL’s most prolific passer ever, dropped to the end of the first round of the 1983 draft because of similar concerns.
