The new labor deal prohibits free agent signees from practicing until Thursday.

But in the interim, those players are allowed to attend practice and meetings. So while they wait to don pads, guys like Doug Free, Kyle Kosier and Marcus Spears are spending their time tutoring the youngsters, asking questions and soaking up as much as they can at practice.

Kosier and Free have been very active in working with younger players during practices thus far.

I heard if all goes well they could be back on the field sooner than August 4th...
