Default Rex Ryan Opens Mouth, Inserts Foot... Threatens Cowboys Fans?

Jets coach tells Cowboys fans to stay home

9/8/2011 7:55:53 AM

Cowboys fans have invaded Giants Stadium for years when their team faced the Giants. With the Cowboys coming to MetLife Stadium on Sunday to face the Jets, Rex Ryan was asked if he expects to see Cowboys fans in the stands according to Brian Costello of the New York Post.

"I don't know why they'd be here," the Jets coach said Wednesday. "They're coming into our stadium. It's probably not recommended that you wear Cowboys stuff, I would think."

Ryan made the remark off the cuff, but it is not the smartest message to deliver in light of recent fan violence at stadiums in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Just this week, a soccer fan in England was attacked outside Wembley Stadium and died.

I really think the league needs to look into this and maybe have him address it or retract that statement. Rex Ryan is loved by Jets fans and that statement basically is telling Jets fans to harrass and/or get violent with anyone daring to wear Cowboys gear to the game. If something actually happens, he will be partly or mostly to blame. I don't usually jump on people for their words but a head coach saying something like that could have very bad consequences, especially on a super-hyped night like 9-11 against a team everyones fans loves to hate. If I went to that game, wore a Romo jersey, and got beat up for simply cheering for my team, I know the first person I'd send my lawyer after once my attackers were caught and charged.

I'll see you at Giants Stadium, Rex. You'll know it's me by the huge star on my shirt and hat.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

We all know how much Rex Ryan likes a good foot in the mouth.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

Agreed. I bet there will still be a good number of Cowboys fans there, though.

Yep. It was an obvious footrace. Because his comment really sucked. He should never have even dipped his toe in that water, knowing that Jets fans are drooling at the idea of stomping all over the Cowboys.

Fine him.
Answer for this off-season: Assemble an elite offense.

there would be real irony in a Cowboy fan being beat up for exercising his freedom to cheer for his team on the anniversary of the day freedom was attacked within sight of where that attack occurred. Ryan is implying that there should be Jet induced terrorism on CowboyFan.

Go ahead and take a well-deserved victory lap; just realize it's a marathon, not a sprint.
