What happened to all the great players ?
What happened to all the great players we used to pick up from other teams? The Charles Haley's, Deion Sanders, and others that we used to get so often. What free agent since Deion have we gotten since those guys that really made an impact on our team? I know Haley was before free agency, but it seems we could always get the player we needed or wanted. It also seems like back in the day, when Jerry wanted a player, he got him.

Until this year we didn't have the money to spend on the big names or in the case of Jake Delhomme we just missed the boat.

We've got Roy Williams, Jason Witten, Larry Allen and Julius Jones.
And Woodson was hurt this year.
It's a new era bro.

Like was said above, we've been in a bad situation cap wise and this year when we had cap space we had to spend it on quanity of players not quality. We had too many needs to adress to give all our money to two top flite FAs, though I think we have done a very good job so far. There's always next year

Okay....
The Charles Haleys and the Deion Sanders that we used to "get so often".
Prey tell.... what free agents have we ever signed not named Charles Haley and Deion Sanders have been worth a damn?
I mean... we used to get them "so often", so this should be easy for you.
This is a stupid thread.

Which of those players did we pick up from another team?
Comprehension skills lacking again.
To answer the question, I'd say we've had several pretty solid players like Glover, Teague, Ismail, Campbell, Glenn, Key, Anderson, Singleton, Donaldson, and Warren that came from other teams.

The whole premise behind this thread is stupid and void of thought.

Teams have learned from the Charles Haley, Reggie White and Deion Sanders departures. They have gotten smart and will not allow a potential HOF player in his prime to leave their team
Occassionally, you will have someone like an Edgerrin James available but if you notice most superstars are rarely ever available in free agency.
If a team wants to keep a player, they will find a way to do it. The Colts are letting James go not just because of money but because he has expressed an interest to leave and they feel they can replace his services.

It's called salary cap. Which was instituted & aimed directly at Jerry & the 49ers.
And cold hard reality is that teams don't let "great" players walk anymore until they're old (or the team is totally against the salary cap). Realistically, do you think we'll ever let Roy see FA? And if we ever get a franchise QB, there's no WAY we'll let him go either.

The franchise designation tends to find its way to the types of players you're talking about.

Pretty solid list there BZ. We've had our fair share of misses, but we've hit on quite a few as well. Hopefully, these new guys will add to that list.
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!

Aside from Glover, name the last great free agent signing we have made in the past 10 years? Name the last free agent in the past 10 years that has made the Pro Bowl in Dallas and been the high impact free agent signing Glover was?
Name another one...Joey Galloway, Rocket Ismail, Terry Glenn, Keyshawn Johnson, Vinny Testaverde, Marcellus Wiley, ...None of them have made the Pro Bowl in Dallas or been the impact player that Glover has been.
Hopefully Jason Ferguson will be a great addition like Glover but I understand what the OP was getting at. We really have not had a major free agent acquisition at the level of a LaRoi Glover in a long time.
If we can get this Howard deal done but that would be a huge step in the right direction
I do want to add that I'm not complaining. The reality is you won't see many teams release a player like Glover very often unless they are stupid or just so full of talent they can allow him to go (Colts-Edgerrin James)
