Default Our QB History

If you take into consideration all the QB's that have played for Dallas at one point or another.....I think we have the richest tradition for QBs in NFL history... no one even comes close:

Think about these players:

Eddie LeBaron
Roger Staubach
Don Meredith
Craig Morton
Danny White
Troy Aikman
Rodney Peete
Bernie Kosar
Vinny Testeverde
Drew Bledsoe
Steve DeBerg
Steve Beurline
Randall Cunningham

Thats quite an impressive group of QB's that have played for the Cowboys at one point or another during their careers.

I'm a huge Cowboy's fan but I gotta admit, I don't remember Steve DeBerg. When was that?

You're correct, he never played for the 'Boys.

Thanks. I thought I was slipping. Ya know, the mind starts to cramp up on ya a bit once you hit 40.

Yes Steve DeBerg was once the #3 QB in Dallas behind Roger and White (or someone). He was kept over Jim Zorn who went to Seattle If I remember right. And I think he was released to make room on the roster for Preston Pearson. He then went on to play pretty well in a number of places and is most notiable for being the man to be replaced as starting QB by both Joe Montana in SF and John Elway in Denver when they each came into the league.

This was a long time ago and I am going from memory alone so forgive me if I didn't get some details exactly right.

We drafted Steve DeBerg in the 10th round in 1977.

Notice how all posts stopped while everyone surfs the net for proof of Deberg being a Cowboy.

I'm not sure if he made it into the regular season with us. I don't think he did. But I do know we took him in the 10th round.

"DeBerg's NFL career began in 1977, as a 10th-round draft pick of the Cowboys. Of course, Dallas already had Roger Staubach, so it's only fitting that our hero was cut at the end of training camp. But he latched on with the sad-sack 49ers, who went 2-14 in 1978 behind Scott Bull and DeBerg."

They just don't make them like Roger anymore.
