I was going to note that I read Tolkien in grade school, but, unfortunately, that was a few years ago now.

When I see these things I automatically assume the writer is just trying hard to be ironic. I don't believe for a second that the writer does not know Tolkien preceded Rowling by half a century. I felt the same way about the twitter explosion about not knowing Titanic was real. It probably started with someone trying to be cute and turned into the hip thing to do.
