Default DC.COM: Bye Sunday May Not Give Eagles An Edge

Posted by jellis at 10/25/2011 11:28 AM CDT on dallascowboys.com

The Philadelphia Eagles may not have as big an advantage against the Cowboys as one might expect coming off their bye in Week 7.

As NFL.com's Michael Lombardi points out (via PFT), teams are 3-9 coming off their bye week this season. That would include the Cowboys' 20-16 loss at New England in Week 6, for which they had two weeks to prepare.

The old assumption that extra time to rest and get ready for an opponent is beneficial may not be holding true this year because of a change in the league's CBA which mandates players be given at least four consecutives off days during the open date. Combined with no offseason and jam-packed training camps, the thought is that teams and players are letting their fundamentals get away from them during the extra time away from the practice field.

Wow, this stuff is dumb. A bunch of bad teams have had byes (these 12 teams are 28-44 overall), and suddenly we've got a whole theory about it. Sigh.

Aren't the Eagles 12-0 after a bye...

God... You would think they would atleast "Google" research before they write an article....

This is Tony Romo's team. If you don't like him, find another team.

Cowboys were 16-5 in games following the bye. The last loss came in 2004 (before this season) - not sure that I would count on history to mean anything in all this.

I think Dallas and Philly know each other well enough that the bye is not going to mean that much in this game.

No doubt the extra week gives Philly more of an opportunity to see Rob's defense but in the end it comes down to both teams going out and executing.

This was going to be a tough game regardless of the bye.

would not expect anything else. It has been a tough heated game for a while now and expect to see a hard fought game by both teams.

I'm looking forward to it

With the Cowboys comfortable, injury free win over the Rams, it was almost like they had a bye themselves.

The Eagles bye will have no effect as to who wins or loses. It will be about executing and avoiding mistakes.
