the quick take on safeties
first, we can forget about davis GA, who is clearly the king of the crop (warning: mixed metaphor) but i think pool OK is a definite possibility with our second round pick if he's still there. shazor MI is more a SS but also might go in the second round. fuller VT would be nice if we picked up a third round pick trading down, and i also like fox or butler in the fourth. its not a deep crop this year and it is a need position, unless ty law knows something we don't...

I would select Brandon Browner of Oregon St. He is a 6'3 217lb CB who ran a 4.55 -4.6 at the combine. He is a legit CB but I would move him to FS because of his size and cover skills.

What do you think about Bullocks?
We could probably trade down to the middle of the 2nd round with our original 2nd round pick, and possibly pick up an extra 4th rounder. (Depending who is there, of course, at the number 42 slot.)

are you willing to chance trading down and bet that he'll still be available?
Wonder if the kid Browner from Oregon can tackle. If he can, maybe a very good pickup. Where is he slated to go? 2-3 rd....kinda remind me of Hunter with more experience.

I think we could get away trading down a bit. Isn't 42 a bit too high for Bullocks? But it does seem the team is high on this kid, so you never know I suppose . . . .

Browner WAS supposed to be top 32 untill he hit that 4.6 at the combine, now he's a mid 2nd rounder at best from what I've seen.

One of the big reasons our defense "worked" for many years is that we had a safety back there in Woodson that could cover a slot receiver. And when we had Marion back there too we had maybe the best pair of coverage safeties in the NFL. Last year obviously our coverage sucked. I don't care who we get back there but they had better be able to cover. This is a throwing league now due to the rules. We need a safety that can cover first and tackle second cos Roy will never, ever be a coverage safety.

This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

Shazor might not even end up being a SS. He could go the route of Cato June and move to WLB. He always reminded me of Larry Foote.

Marlin Jackson would be ideal in the slot. I'm really down on Brodney Pool anyone who has seen the guy play for an extended period of time will say the same. He consistently takes horrible angles and if you like WR's running sideline routes untouched to the endzone he's your man. I am having a hard time finding info on Peter Sands. I got to watch a UCF game on television when I was down in Florida and he seemed very athletic. Huge guy for a free safety and he seemed to move very well. Bigby gets all the pub but Sands led the team in tackles his junior year. I found some info on nflfans but am striking out elsewhere. Maybe someone else has some info on him. Davis and Bullocks are very good prospects and I would be happy with either. James Butler tested well at his pro day this week weighing 211 and ran 4.5 with a 44 inch vertical. Haven't seen him play though.
I had an apartment and I had a neighbor, and whenever he would knock on my wall I knew he wanted me to turn my music down and that made me angry 'cause I like loud music... so when he knocked on the wall, I'd mess with his head. I'd say, "Go around! I cannot open the wall! I dunno if you have a doorknob on your side but over here there's nothin'. It's just flat."

it will be a coverage safety
with our front 7 upgrades and roy closer to the LOS, you can bet we will take a centerfield type of guy who can get there quickly and make a sure tackle if nothing else. pool isn't the 2nd rated safety prospect for no reason - he has excellent ball skills and at 6'3" and 200 lbs he towers over most of the other rookie class. he'll go in the first half of the second round no worries, if not sooner...
bullocks and the other names mentioned - they're all second day guys. the question is do we take a second day guy, throw him in with the guys already on the roster? or do we go after a name player the first day and try to nail it down? if pool is there with our second round pick, unless we have traded down and have our eye on someone else which i doubt, i think we have to take him. its not a reach - its a position of need and would have to be well-received by everyone as a good solid pick.

I think Pool's stock is slipping. He was never rated highly because of his production on the football field, but because everyone thought he was a super bluechip athlete. His workouts have proven his athletic ability is as pedestrian as his play.
I think he's a 3rd round pick, at best. In the meantime, not only has he not distanced himself from the rest of the FS crop, but there have probably been a couple of safeties who didn't get hype in November who have moved up into that tier.

Now we totally agree on this one. But I want a safety sized guy who can cover. Just hope we get one.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.
