2011 - Wow!
Cowboys | Frontrunner for 2011 Super Bowl? - from www.KFFL.com
Tue, 22 Mar 2005 20:42:11 -0800
Nick Eatman, of DallasCowboys.com, reports the <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/14/nfl"> Dallas Cowboys are believed to be the frontrunner to host the 2011 Super Bowl, assuming the new $650 stadium in Arlington, Texas, complete with a retractable roof, is completed by 2009. The 2011 Super Bowl site isn't likely to be voted on until next year.
Now thats a first!

Thats why the stadium was bult so Dallas could host a SB> You know it gets sad when a 2nd year team gets a SB bid faster than America's Team

C'mon would you really want the Cowboys to host a SB in Texas Stadium? I luv Tx Stadium for its historic value, but it's no Reliant Stadium. Not by a long shot. But I'd definitely go to the Metroplex when it comes.
And really that's just the cost of doing business in the NFL these days. Build a stadium, get a SB. Lenny P. just posted an article about how the commish is using the SB as leverage to get new stadiums built. Such as the Jets being conditionally awarded the 2010 SB should they get their stadium built.
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!

Here's the report from DC.com. It's tucked in as a throwaway at the bottom of the piece. I think it's interesting that Tags sort of bribed the voters by promising a Super Bowl if they voted for the stadium. It's the exact same thing he's doing with NY right now--promising the 2010 Super Bowl IF voters cough up a new stadium for the Jets.
Already Eying 2011
Among the many topics the NFL and team owners are discussing at the league meetings in Maui is future Super Bowl sites.
The Cowboys are still in the running for the 2011 Super Bowl, which likely won't be voted on until next year. Detroit, Miami and Phoenix will be playing host to the next three Super Bowls, with Atlanta, Miami, Tampa, Fla., and Houston currently competing for the 2009 Super Bowl. That vote will not come until May. New York is making a strong push for the 2010 Super Bowl, contingent on the Jets gaining approval for a new stadium on the west side of Manhattan.
The Cowboys are believed to be the frontrunners to host the 2011 Super Bowl, assuming the new $650 stadium in Arlington, Texas, complete with a retractable roof, is completed by 2009 projected.
Before the stadium funding vote passed in Arlington to build the stadium, NFL Commissioner Paul Tagilabue visited the area last fall and suggested the city would be rewarded with a Super Bowl if a stadium was built.

I definitely think the city of Dallas made a big mistake by not getting the Dallas Cowboys back in Dallas.
Speaking of the Super Bowl, how cool would that be to have it in the metroplex? I am sure all the celebrities would come flocking, and it would be pretty cool to have the metroplex as the center of attention for a week.

I think the Cowboys originally wanted $450 million and an answer within weeks, something that was unfair to ask of any city. IMO it sounds as if it was nothing more than Jerry publicly giving Dallas a chance when he really wanted no part of them.

Hopefully it will be the first of many super bowls in our stadium.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

This seems like a basic ploy the NFL is using to get a new stadium for the Jets pushed through. I thought 2010 was Arlington's to lose, but when you have a major bargaining chip like the Super Bowl to dangle, why not use it to get a state of the art facility built on the West Side of Manhattan?
